Medical Laboratory Technologist (based at National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), Teku

The Medical Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for supporting HIV-related testing, quality assurance, recording reporting, coordination, and management to achieve the goals of the National HIV program and EpiC Nepal. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support to conduct HIV viral load and Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) of HIV
  • Participate in specimen collection, storage, processing, testing, and recording of other HIV related tests at NPHL
  • Support in maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs), reagent inventory, expiry log, temperature log, among others, for tests and instruments used within the unit as instructed by Head of Department (HOD)/In-charge
  • Work in implementation of External Quality Assessment Scheme (EQAS) of HIV serology and viral load across the country
  • Support in maintaining ISO accreditation of HIV/Hepatitis reference unit at NPHL
  • Participate in conducting regular meetings, workshops, problem-oriented discussions and other HIV and HIV- related laboratory activities
  • Coordinate with NPHL and Province Public Health Laboratories for EpiC project related activities
  • Facilitate trainings/events concerned with HIV Infection and laboratory technologies for diagnosis and monitoring of HIV infection conducted by NPHL, EpiC Nepal, or other stakeholders as per assigned by Director/HOD/In-charge to strengthen laboratory practice in peripheral service sites
  • Support EpiC Nepal for conducing training, supportive supervision, and monitoring in consultation with and approval from Supervisor, HOD, In-charge and Director
  • Participate and share idea to deliver quality and timely dissemination of services provided by HIV/Hepatitis Reference Laboratory
  • Coordination with government hospitals, province public health laboratories, antiretroviral therapy (ART) centers and stakeholders
  • Supportive supervision and monitoring of government sites as directed by NPHL
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology or equivalent with three years of relevant work experience in laboratory diagnosis. Master’s degree preferable with relevant experience
  • Experience in molecular-level testing preferred
  • Experience in the field of HIV and AIDS-related services preferred
  • Proactive and independent approach to work with a willingness to undertake additional responsibilities. 
  • Ability to work well with others and to develop and maintain positive working relationships
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, team building and management, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written English and Nepali including documentation skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite Applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
