Division: Knowledge Management and Communication (KMC)

Duration: One year, with a probation period of three months, with possibility of extension, subject to performance and ICIMOD’s future funding levels

Duty station: The duty station is Kathmandu

Remuneration: Salaries and benefits of ICIMOD are competitive compared with other regional organizations; remuneration is commensurate with experience and qualifications

Responsibilities and tasks:

The Media Associate will work closely with colleagues in the Media Unit and under the direct supervision of the Media Officer in all day-to-day functions relating to media and outreach activities. The Associate should be aware of basic communications and public relations practices.

Specifically, the Media Associate will:

  • Hold primary responsibility for social media management across all ICIMOD social media channels (primarily Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram but also LinkedIn) 
  • Assist in all media-related activities (staff articles, press releases, press meets, interviews, media events)
  • Assist in all outreach activities (exhibitions, book fairs, film festivals, international day events, open houses)
  • Identify – in coordination with colleagues – news content from print, online news portals, google alerts, and other sources
  • Compile and share weekly media coverage and generate other related reports on-demand
  • Track and update media coverage on the website
  • Update and maintain ICIMOD’s media contact database and generate users’ profiles and lists upon request
  • Assist in follow-up for news items for the ICIMOD News Digest, e-circulars, and announcements
  • Maintain and update information on display boards at the front office
  • Respond to general queries for information, visits, and related matter
  • Perform any other related duties

Minimum qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in media studies, communications, journalism, or other relevant fields
  • A minimum of two years of work experience in a field related to communications, journalism, media, or research
  • Excellent communications skills and knowledge of information technology; sound knowledge of communication strategies and social media management tools and platforms
  • Experience in science, environment, marketing, public relations, or digital engagement is preferred
