Roles and responsibilities of this job

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team and support the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems for construction and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will ensure quality, safety, and efficiency throughout project execution while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and cost-effective engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Equipment Records and Status

Maintain a complete and current register of all equipment deployed on the project, including make, model, capacity, ownership status (owned/hired/leased), location, and operating condition.
Track and report daily/weekly equipment status: operational, idle, under repair, or awaiting spares.
Monitor and report utilization, fuel/lubricant consumption, and running hours against targets.

2. Single Point of Contact for Mechanical Matters

Act as the principal point of contact for all mechanical issues raised by site management, the Client, or the Engineer.
Coordinate with project management on equipment deployment, mobilization, and demobilization in line with the construction programme.
Liaise with suppliers, hire firms, workshops, and service agents for repairs, warranty claims, and spare parts.

3. Supervision of Mechanical Personnel

Exercise line authority over all mechanical staff; all mechanical personnel shall report to this position.
Assign duties, approve shift rosters and leave, and monitor performance and discipline of the mechanical team.
Identify manpower requirements and arrange training on safe operation and maintenance practices.

4. Issue and Resolution Register

Maintain an active log of all mechanical issues, breakdowns, corrective actions taken, downtime incurred, and resolution dates.
Record root causes of recurring failures and recommend preventive measures.
Submit periodic reports to management on breakdown trends, downtime cost, and repair expenditure.

5. Maintenance and Compliance (supporting responsibilities)

Establish and enforce a preventive maintenance schedule for all plant and equipment.
Control spare parts inventory, consumables, and workshop stores to minimize downtime.
Ensure equipment complies with applicable safety, environmental, and statutory requirements, including valid registrations, insurance, and third-party certification where required.
Verify hire/rental invoices, fuel records, and repair bills prior to certification for payment.

Required Education Level:Under Graduate (Bachelor)

Required Experience:More than 10 years

Other Specification

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum 10 years of experience in managing mechanical equipment in a construction company

Key Competencies

Sound knowledge of heavy construction equipment (excavators, loaders, crushers, batching plants, cranes, drilling rigs, compressors, generators, pumps).
Ability to plan preventive maintenance and control downtime and operating cost.
Leadership, record-keeping discipline, and reporting skills.
Working knowledge of workshop practices, hydraulics, and diesel engine systems.
