Rangjung Yeshe Institute (RYI) is an institution of higher learning in Boudhanath for those wishing to deepen their understanding of Buddhist philosophy and practice. RYI has been conducting seminars and study programs for more than 25 years. Since 2001, the Institute has worked in close partnership with Kathmandu University to manage the Kathmandu University Centre for Buddhist Studies at RYI which offers undergraduate and post-graduate degree courses in Buddhist Studies and related topics.

Position: Marketing Officer
Duration: 1 year (with possibility of extension)
Duty Station: Boudhanath, Kathmandu
Reports to: Marketing Manager

Position Description:

The Marketing Officer is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day activities of the marketing department as well as the ongoing development of overall objectives and marketing strategies in conjunction with the Marketing Manager. Assist with the development of annual marketing and communications plans. Major tasks include conducting market research and analysis, co-ordinating with the Programs department about programs and courses, maintaining brand guidelines in various media forms, website updates, and overall assisting the Marketing Manager as directed.

Specific areas of work include:

  • Support the marketing manager in the preparation of the annual marketing and communications plan, and assist the marketing manager in the implementation of the plan
  • Support the marketing manager with the development of marketing strategy to increase RYI’s global profile, positioning and outreach among potential and current students, alumni, supporters, academics and potential donors, in line with RYI’s missions, values, and priorities
  • Conduct market research in order to increase RYI’s understanding of its student demographic profile, potential new markets, and strategic and competitive position, as well as identifying improved marketing platforms and tools. Assess the effectiveness of promotional strategies. Report on the effectiveness of promotional strategies to the Marketing Manager.
  • Assist with the regular updating of all associated websites and social media platforms. Support RYI’s social networking presence, and work with others at RYI who also post to social media. Experience with Canva or equivalent design tools is preferred.
  • Provide quality assurance for all promotional and communications materials in conformity with RYI’s visual brand identity standards.
  • Assist with A/V set up for online/concurrent classes as needed
  • Any other task as reasonably requested by the organization

Qualification and Experience:

Required: 

  • BA degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience marketing to a worldwide audience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively.
  • Good professional judgement and discretion.
  • Analytical skills to forecast and identify trends and challenges.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends, technologies and methodologies in graphical design, web design and social media promotion, etc.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written
  • Must obtain Nepali PAN ID

Desirable:

  • Intermediate level Nepali and/or Tibetan skills.
  • Experience within the field of higher education.
  • Experience with Canva or equivalent design tools is preferred.
  • Graphic design skills.
  • Copywriting skills.
