Street Child is an international charity based in the United Kingdom that aims to create avenues for out-of- school children to access education by through an integrated approach that strengthens the capacity of teachers, schools and communities to sustain their investment in the education for their children.

Following the devastating earthquakes in April and May 2015 that left more than 1 million children out of school and destroyed or damaged over 50,000 classrooms, Street Child UK expanded its operations into Nepal to assist local partners to re-establish education in some of the country’s worst affected communities. 

With the support of DFID, it is now implementing education and livelihood program targeting marginalized girls in Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari and Sunsari districts in Nepal.Street Child of Nepal is therefore calling applications in following position for the implementation of its new program:

Job Description

Reports To: Programs Manager
Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 5:30 pm

Objective/Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this position is to develop methods of improving the standards of livelihoods in the project districts of Nepal. The ToR outlines the need to conduct assessments and formulate strategies for developing and implementing a livelihood program in Nepal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed response options analysis to identify the most appropriate programme intervention(s), and design and deliver early-stage programme design and plans of action–including associated tools–as appropriate.
  • Develop appropriate targeting criteria and mechanisms to ensure the needs of identified vulnerable groups are met.
  • Liaise with local authorities, research institutes, UN agencies, government bodies and clusters at base level.
  • Increase awareness, advocate for and strengthen livelihood coordination capacity of the relevant local Government based on capacity assessment.
  • Oversee and manage the support, training and development of relevant staff and volunteers in the livelihood programs.
  • Ensure that knowledge transfer between programmes and relevant partners is achieved, by documenting best practice/lessons learned as appropriate for the current programme and for future use.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Agriculture, Social Science, Management or related field combined with extensive experience in similar responsible position in rural community is considered as equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in a field related to livelihoods, good governance, and planning or project management.
  • A mix of emergency food security and vulnerable livelihoods and long-term/resilient livelihood program planning and implementation experience in South East Asia.
  • Good understanding of livelihoods programming including advocacy and policy in Nepal.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
  • Livelihood assessment and strategy development skills. Experience in developing strategies for program that are in transition from humanitarian to long-term development would be a plus.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft packages (Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc.).
