Responsibilities:

The legal specialist shall primarily work in supporting and advising on the tax implications of various transactions involving land and property in the UK. As part of the role, the candidate will perform the following duties, among others.

  • Collect required information and conduct legal research on UK Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) laws and regulations.
  • Analyze the SDLT implications of various transactions that involve land and property in the UK.
  • Draft and review SDLT return, tax advice reports and SDLT rebate claims.
  • Write articles, summaries, case briefs and other knowledge products in the UK SDLT regime.
  • Liaise with clients, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), and other relevant parties on SDLT matters.
  • Maintain and update database, tracking systems and daily record keeping for SDLT compliance and reporting.
  • Provide support and training to relevant teams and colleagues on the SDLT issues.
  • Perform other duties related to the role as assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in legal industry
  • Experience in corporate/tax law (preferred)
  • Analytical skill with strong theoretical and research skills
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret legal documents and tax legislation
  • Detailed oriented
