Job Description

Kathmandu University-Integrated Rural Development Project (KU-IRDP) is a project funded by the government of the Republic of Korea. It is jointly managed by Kathmandu University (KU) Nepal and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Korea. Kathmandu University has formally established Nepal Technology Innovation Center (NTIC) as an entity in Nepal as a major milestone of "Integrated Rural Development of Nepal through Strengthening Research and Development capacity of Kathmandu University." 

The main objectives of IRDP/NTIC are: 

  • Contribute for integrated rural development of Nepal by strengthening research and development capacity of Kathmandu University. 
  • Promote technology innovation for improving quality of life and income status of people in rural communities in Nepal mainly in the fields of Agriculture & Rural Development, Alternative and Renewable Energy and Health related Livelihood. 

Smart Health program is one of the major components of IRDP/NTIC. The program has aims to 

  • Development of digital health platform and 
  • Capacity in Nepal to improve quality of care and facilitate health research in Nepal (including biomedical) 

The program aims to achieve these through the establishment of a smart-health lab and research network. The smart-health lab is envisioned to adopt existing tools, modify standards on need basis, design enterprise architecture, develop it and implement it as smart health platforms, which will be as per international standards.

Position: Lead developer 

Job overview:

The Lead Developer for Smart Health Lab will provide an overall direction and leadership for smart health platform development, implementation, commercialization and maintenance. The Lead Developer will be responsible for 

  • Development of infrastructure for data storage and analysis 
  • Preliminary works for the development of new softwares and applications targeted on smart health. 
  • Assist in standardize the new softwares and applications 
  • Develop tools to test and standardize other softwares and applications 
  • Support in commercialization 
  • Develop tools to test and standardize other softwares and applications 
  • Scaling up of the demo projects

(S)he will also be responsible to work with junior developers, consultants, lead of smart health project and relevant stakeholders to develop detailed development plan. 

Qualifications: 

  • Advanced university degree with 2 + years of experience in Digital Health 
  • Bachelors with 4+ years of experience in Digital Health 

Expected Skills: 

  • Experience development in Java, python and other popular languages 
  • Strong Technical Acumen Experience with Industry leading Interoperability Engines such as Rhapsody, Mirth, Cloverleaf, Corepoint, etc. 
  • Expertise working with HL7, FHIR, CCD/CCDA, openEHR protocols Working knowledge on clinical and biomedical data models (OMOP, 12B2) 
  • Experience with healthcare data standards (ICD, LOINC, SNOMED, UMLS etc.) 
  • Experience with DevOps principle, with knowledge on containers, CI/CD etc. and clouds Understanding of Privacy & Security (e.g. HIPAA, GDPR) requirements 
  • Understanding of web certificates and encryption technologies (e.g. GPG, Syamantec) 
  • Understanding of Regulatory Oversight of Medical Software Experience with Quality Systems and Product Development Process (PDP) 
  • Experience with Device generated data and associated device metadata Digital Health R&D Product Development Experience 

Contract Details: 
Duration of Contract: 6 Months (+/- 3 days) with possible extension 
Starting Date: From the date of signing of contract
Reporting to: Program Lead / Smart Health Program, NTIC, KU-IRDP
Work Station: IRDP/NTIC office, KU, Dhulikhel, Kavre 

Lead Developer position is equivalent to Research Associate as specified in RDI policy information and the remuneration will be provided based on his/her qualification and experience.
