Position Overview:

The Local Adaptation Plans of Action (LAPA) Coordinator for Upper Mustang will lead the study and development of local adaptation strategies to address the impacts of climate change. This role involves extensive collaboration with community stakeholders, local governments, and partner organizations to develop effective adaptation plans that enhance community resilience in Upper Mustang. Additionally, the coordinator will oversee and coordinate a filming team documenting the LAPA process.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Study Leadership:

  • Lead the planning, development, and execution of the LAPA study in Upper Mustang.
  • Coordinate with community leaders, local government officials, and partner organizations to ensure alignment and support for the study.
  • Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting related to climate change impacts and adaptation needs.

2. Community Engagement:

  • Facilitate meetings and workshops to gather input and feedback on adaptation strategies.
  • Build strong relationships with community members to foster trust and collaboration.
  • Provide education and awareness about climate change impacts and potential adaptation strategies relevant to the Upper Mustang region.

3. Technical Support:

  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and risk analyses specific to identify local climate change impacts.
  • Develop recommendations for adaptation tailored to the unique needs of the local communities.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to community members and local stakeholders as needed.

4. Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare detailed reports on the LAPA study progress, outcomes, and impact assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, including community meetings, data collection, and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies.

5. Capacity Building:

  • Identify opportunities for capacity building within communities and among stakeholders.
  • Organize and conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance local capacity for climate adaptation in Upper Mustang.

6. Resource Mobilization:

  • Identify funding opportunities and assist in the preparation of grant proposals to support the LAPA study.
  • Manage study budgets and ensure effective utilization of resources for Upper Mustang projects.

7. Filming Coordination:

  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of a filming team documenting the LAPA process.
  • Ensure the filming accurately represents the LAPA process and engages community members effectively.
  • Collaborate with the filming team to create compelling and informative visual content that highlights the adaptation strategies and community involvement.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project management, preferably in climate change adaptation or community development.
  • Strong understanding of climate change issues and adaptation strategies, with a focus on mountainous or remote regions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders in Upper Mustang.
  • Proven experience in facilitating community participation and building local capacity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Experience in coordinating media or filming projects is an asset.
  • Fluency in English and Nepali; knowledge of local languages of Upper Mustang is a plus.
