Division: Knowledge Management and Communication

Duration: This is a project position for in total maximum 2 years, initially for one year with a probation period of three months and a possibility of extension for a maximum of one year subject to performance and ICIMOD’s future funding levels.

Remuneration: Salaries and benefits of ICIMOD are competitive compared with other regional organizations; remuneration is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities and tasks

Under the overall guidance of the Head of KMC and the direct supervision of the Group Lead for KMC Focal Persons, the Knowledge Management and Communication Associate will work closely with the initiatives and will be responsible for the following tasks:

Synthesis, editing, and documentation

  • Support in synthesizing initiatives' achievements and developing documents and other knowledge products for influencing policy and practice
  • Support the development of draft publications or other forms of communication materials such as videos and flyers from diverse material provided by programme staff such as reports, summaries, presentations, and verbal inputs
  • Support the preparation of impact stories for the web and public dissemination (travel to project activity sites may be required)
  • Support the summarizing and rewriting of text for different purposes (e.g. media articles, peer-reviewed journal articles, web summaries, and information sheets)
  • Support the documentation of workshops and conferences as a rapporteur
  • Ensure initiative publications are collected, registered, and shared through ICIMOD's online document repository, HimalDoc

Planning, networking, and outreach

  • Support the preparation and design of strategies and plans for communication and outreach for initiatives within the framework of the Knowledge Management and Communications Strategy
  • In collaboration with other KMC colleagues, support the drafting of press releases, advisories, factsheets, newsletters, press/media kits, event proceedings, and news stories for media uptake and to inform key partners and other targeted audiences about the results and achievements of initiatives
  • Assist in knowledge sharing with partners, providing a steady flow of news and stories for website/publications and keeping partners aware of the initiatives' work
  • Provide support to training and capacity-building activities for initiatives and partners on KMC tools and processes
  • Help monitor and evaluate knowledge-sharing programmes and activities to improve networking and outreach of the initiatives

Internal liaison and coordination

  • Support the interface of initiatives with KMC for smooth running of operations in-house and with outside consultants when relevant 
  • Provide relevant inputs and information to keep the initiatives' website and other information portals up to date
  • Facilitate submission of publications to KMC and ICIMOD's internal Publications and Outreach Committee for approval
  • Support the identification of the communication and knowledge management needs of the initiatives and suggest appropriate KMC in-house tools/services 
  • Perform other related duties as required and as may be requested by the KMC Senior Manager

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media, Information Management/Science, Development Communication, Knowledge Management, or related fields 
  • Minimum two years of work experience in the field of communications
  • Excellent communication skills and sound knowledge of information technology and communication strategies and platforms
