Street Child is an international charity based in the United Kingdom that aims to create avenues for out-of- school children to access education by through an integrated approach that strengthens the capacity of teachers, schools and communities to sustain their investment in the education for their children.

Following the devastating earthquakes in April and May 2015 that left more than 1 million children out of school and destroyed or damaged over 50,000 classrooms, Street Child UK expanded its operations into Nepal to assist local partners to re-establish education in some of the country’s worst affected communities. 

With the support of DFID, it is now implementing education and livelihood program targeting marginalized girls in Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari and Sunsari districts in Nepal.Street Child of Nepal is therefore calling applications in following position for the implementation of its new program:

Job Description

Reporting to: Programs Manager
Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 5:00 pm 

Objective/Purpose of the Position:

  • The Inclusion Officer will primarily be responsible for technical facilitation and coordination of the inclusion aspects of the educational components of the projects. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for the development and the delivery of inclusion-relating curricula in the project districts
  • The incumbent will provide technical support and facilitation in all field-level activities against the stigma and the discrimination regarding physical and/or learning disabilities and socio-economic marginalization. S/he will serve as the supporting member to all the projects being implemented by SCoN with the responsibility for aiding and coordinating with the Programs team in preparing, managing and delivering project components including developing the curriculum, teacher working manuals, developing teacher training content, contributing towards assessment tools and delivering and supervising the training in the field
  • The incumbent(s) will also support in educational activities in terms of capacity development of consortium partners, government counterparts with an aim to incorporate Inclusive Education pedagogic during the different phases in project management

Key Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of the incumbent will be to support the Street Child of Nepal Programs Team through:

Technical Support, Curriculum Development and Training Delivery:

  • The incumbent will provide technical support and facilitation in all field-level activities combating the stigma and/or the discrimination regarding physical and/or learning disabilities, impairments and handicaps
  • Providing inputs in pedagogy/teaching-learning of children with disabilities including learning disabilities
  • Provide support to the Programs team in preparing, managing and delivering project components including developing the curriculum, teacher working manuals, developing teacher training content, contributing towards assessment tools and delivering and supervising the training in the field
  • Assess the beneficiaries’ needs and contribute in planning, developing and implementing educational, training and support programs
  • Interview and research-based activities in order to assess the nature and extent of physical and or learning difficulties
  • Work together with the Monitoring & Evaluation Team to develop assessment tools to track the progress of the inclusion components of the project
  • Assess community need and resources for health, welfare, housing, employment, training and other facilities and services. Conduct service mapping in the project sites
  • To help facilitate and organize the various training and orientation programmes in the project areas relating to physical and mental health disabilities
  • Prepare social mobilization plan in close consultation with the team, thus ensuring coordination between the Street Child of Nepal in order to disseminate the various project elements

Community Engagement, Case Management and Case referrals:

  • Work together and liaising with a range of service units which provide education and community access to people with intellectual, physical, social and emotional disabilities
  • Refer clients to relevant agencies that can provide additional help
  • Liaise with Community Management Committees, welfare agencies, government bodies and private businesses owners/employers about community issues and promoting awareness of community resources and services
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and monitoring of diversity working groups
  • Supporting beneficiary groups (including differently abled individuals) in providing education and disabled persons in adult service units, group housing and government institutions
  • Assist the beneficiary communities in understanding the effects of disabilities and in eliminating the physical, technical, attitudinal and the programmatic barriers that limit the range of opportunities for students or the potential beneficiaries with disabilities

Dissemination of Information:

  • Submit findings and reports to direct line managers
  • Preparing submissions for funding and resources, and reports to government bodies and other agencies
  • Review of documentation and provides individuals with reasonable accommodations
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of individual records as required

  • Excellent written and oral communication in Nepali and English. Maithili would be an asset

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or relevant social science, with focus on inclusive education in terms of gender, physical and mental disability and DRR is desirable. Master’s degree in the relevant field would be an asset
  • At least three years of experience working with vulnerable, disadvantaged and marginalized communities of Nepal with focus on the educational and/or livelihood sector
  • Humanitarian response experience would be an added advantage
  • Prior experience on Accelerated Learning Programmes is desirable
  • Experience in case management, community mobilization, service mapping, training delivery, excellent facilitation and capacity building is expected
  • Knowledge of learning level assessment at different levels is must
  • Adequate computer skills such as Microsoft Office
