Job Description

  • Work with the Head of Sixth Form and Sixth Form mentors to support students with their university applications, to inform and guide parents in assisting them and in ensure staff can provide the necessary advice and support to students to enable successful applications.
  • Raise the profile of careers education in the school through keeping up to date displays of information that relates to all our students; creating videos and developing resources for a website.
  • Produce and update booklets, leaflets and electronic resources that answer frequently asked questions from parents and students at TBS. These will include an overall “higher education” booklet as well as “why study…..” guides and information about financial support for different countries
  • Train and support teachers in writing high quality references and letters of recommendation in a timely manner, including contributing to training sessions in this area. Monitor to the quality of the references produced
  • Ensure that electronic files with student details are up to date and well organised and that this information is available to all those who will need it.
  • Ensure any HE work is of high quality, imparting accurate and up to date information. Maintain up to date knowledge on financial aid packages that will be suitable for our students.
  • Lead on all aspects of higher education, including CPD. This may include meeting with parents and managing expectations to ensure that they are realistic.
  • Contribute to the annual school development plan regarding higher education support through regularly reviewing our provision
  • Liaise with Heads of Key Stage to organise a secondary HE preparation programme including the Year 12 university preparation week and regular PSHE sessions to ensure that students are clear about their HE pathways
  • Produce accurate information about the status of HE applications to the LT at various stages of the process and ensure relevant communication about higher education is excellent and available to ALL parents and students
  • Liaise with Heads of Key Stage to support students and parents whose expectations are exceeding their performance and work on solutions to any imbalance
  • Regularly review own practice, set personal targets and take responsibility for own development.  Being aware of current application requirements. Investigate external CPD opportunities
