The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is providing Technical Assistance (TA) to the Government of Nepal (GoN) for the implementation of the Motorable Local Roads Bridge Programme, Phase-IV in all 7 provinces.

Job Outline

GIS Mapping and Planning Specialist (GISMPS) manages all the IT based activities of the LRBSU like maintaining GIS based information system of project’s activities in order to make the short term and long term activities of the programme. S/he will be responsible for the management of IT infrastructure of LRBSU in terms if software, hardware and connectivity.

Qualification and Experience: 

GIS mapping and planning expertise with professional qualification in Computer science/ Mapping and Management Information System (MIS) Bachelor’s degree with 10+years of experience, Masters’ degree with 5 years of experience. Working experience in INGOs/any development sector/LRBP with good spoken & written command over English and Nepali. 

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

The GISMPS will perform following tasks, but not limited to ;

  • Support production of maps and documents as required.
  • Supervise data management aspects of LRBSU through Data entry, data verification, digitization and other related works for the preparation of province level GIS database of roads, bridge 
  • Manage scanning, format conversion, and vectorizing the features to make the final digital database.
  • GIS and Mapping assistance to provinces and local level for preparation of PRNMP and Bridge prioritization tasks 
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the most recent and relevant computer software and recommend to the Team Leader which applications are necessary for the project.
  • Maintain servers / LAN and online systems of the LRBSU.
  • Assist the repair and maintenance works of laptops/computers and IT related equipment.
  • Provide orientation to staff to operate common office related software and online systems 
  • Resolve the software and hardware  related issues in PSU

Procurement: 

  • Advice and set out specification for procurement of new computers, printers, GPS, mapping and IT related items for LRBSU.
  • Carry out quantitative assessment of new computers, printers, GPS, mapping and IT related items for LRBSU as per the specification before registering in the store.
