The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is providing Technical Assistance (TA) to the Government of Nepal (GoN) for the implementation of the Motorable Local Roads Bridge Programme, Phase-IV in all 7 provinces.

Job Outline

The main task of GIS and Mapping Support Office (GISMSO) is to assist and work under GIS Mapping and Planning Specialist, perform the GIS related tasks and management of IT systems and infrastructure of LRBSU

Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in Geomatic Engineering or IT with GIS and mapping skills with professional qualification in related science/ Information technology with (5 years) working experience in INGOs or in any development sector with good spoken & written command over English and Nepali. 

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the GIS Mapping and Planning Specialist s/he will perform following tasks, but not limited to:

  • Perform Data entry, data verification, digitization and other related works for the preparation of district level GIS database of local roads, location and coordinates of bridge requirements along the roads, contours, landuse, drainage, settlements etc. 
  • Perform scanning, format conversion, and vectorizing the features to make the final digital database.
  • Manage Data collection from the concerned authorities
  • Provide GIS and Mapping training for provinces and related stake holders 
  • Assist for GIS database sharing between the relevant organisations and institutions.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the most recent and relevant computer software and recommend to the Team Leader which applications are necessary for the project.
  • Maintain up-to-date virus protection software for the programme computers.
  • Assist the tasks of repair and maintenance of laptops/computers and IT related equipments  in PSU
  • Provide orientation to PSU staff to operate common  office related software,
  • Assist the task of Trouble shooting of office LAN 
  • Manage staff's e-mail address databases /renewal of email, internet with the service provider.
  • Assist in managing web-site.
