Position: Finance Specialist (2 Positions)
Duty Station: Kathmandu

Responsibilities:

1. Provide Centralized Accounting Services for the GIZ Nepal

  • Manage and maintain financial data in the GIZ accounting system.
  • Verify invoices, vouchers, and supporting documents for accuracy and compliance with GIZ guidelines.
  • Classify costs and prepare vouchers for bookkeeping.
  • Ensure accurate and complete financial records for audits.
  • Manages the processing of letters of credit.  
  • Perform monthly cash and bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain organized filing and digital archiving of accounting documents.
  • Provide documentation for internal controls and assist the Head of Finance.
  • Monitors real accounts (payables, receivables) and reports regularly to the officer responsible for the contract and cooperation and the accounting manager.
  • Prepare invoices for external projects and units.
  • Allocate office vehicle costs to relevant projects.

2. Documentation and Settlement of Contracts

  • Settlement of contracts in SAP following service confirmation and final payment.
  • Ensure procurement folders in Document Management System (DMS) are complete with all required payment documents per GIZ guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the Head of Unit and HQ to transfer accounting documents to HQ Germany, ensuring compliance with GIZ requirements.

3. Nepal Taxation/VAT

  • Ensure TDS compliance and timely E-TDS filing.
  • Handle withholding tax (WHT) settlements for all projects/programmes.
  • Prepare and upload E-TDS details in the IRD Portal.
  • Manage VAT refund processes and coordinate with the tax office.

4. Assist in Financial Administration

  • Ensure financial administration functions well in accordance with GIZ standard procedures.
  • Reports all problems with financial administration and compliance without delay.
  • Offer backup support within the finance team as needed.
  • Archive documents in DMS according to GIZ standards.
  • Ensure medical reimbursements and forward claims to HQ Insurance Department for Development Advisors.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as requested from management.

5. Required Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar position 
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards 
  • Proficiency in financial software and knowledge in SAP would be an added advantage 
  • Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Good command of written and spoken English, fluent in Nepali 
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and MS Office
