Nepal Development Research Institute (NDRI) is a leading think tank in Nepal, dedicated to influencing policies through rigorous research and analysis of contemporary and emerging issues. With a legacy of over 20 years, and the recipient of the prestigious Niti Samman 2081 (Policy Award 2024), NDRI's interdisciplinary team focuses on four key thematic program areas, supported by two cross-cutting themes.

NDRI is currently seeking a dynamic, results-driven individual with an outstanding academic background and strong management skills to serve as the Executive Director. This leadership role comes at a pivotal moment for the organization, as it prepares to navigate a future filled with complexities and challenges, as well as significant opportunities.

Executive Director (ED) is the senior most staff and the Executive Head of NDRI responsible for overall management of the organization. The ED should lead the inter- disciplinary team of staff members in achieving NDRI’s vision. The ED should report to the Executive Committee of the Institute through the President. The position is based at NDRI office in Sanepa, Lalitpur, Nepal but may also require travel outside of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, and also outside of the country.

The specific tasks and deliverables will be as follows:

  • Act as a role model with high level of professional integrity, actively contributing to creating an enabling, inclusive work environment through respectful and constructive communication and holding self and other team members accountable for their actions.
  • Positioning and advancing the evidence-building agenda in the country and the region, with emphasis on evidence generation and knowledge sharing to inform policies, programmes and financing.
  • Take overall lead in project development, seeking funding opportunities and effective implementation and reporting, in close collaboration with thematic programme leads and other relevant staff.
  • Continue and further enhance NDRI’s position through effective outreach including organization of various events, policy level engagement, collaboration with various national and international stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective business process management (Administration, finance and information management) as required for the institute’s functioning.
  • Ensure proper documentation of NDRI activities and report periodically to the Executive Committee (EC) on the status of activities and its plans.
  • Other tasks related to the institute as assigned by the President on behalf of the Executive Committee.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field and at least five years of relevant experience; or Master’s.
  • Degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven track record of leading studies and research and in managing personnel.
  • Good record of publications.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Excellent write up and communication skills, interpersonal and management skills, knowledge of securing research grants.

DURATION: Normally for two years, and subject to extension depending on the performance and the EC’s decision. Initial six months will be the probation period.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: The benefits shall include a basic salary, travel and daily subsistence allowance during travel on mission, insurance and contribution to social security (CIT). The basic salary shall be decided considering the candidate’s profile.
