Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Advisor - Karkhana Samuha 

Karkhana Samuha (KS) is a Nepal based non-profit organization that works widely across the field of education. In particular, its interventions seek to catalyze innovation in education systems. Several activities, interventions and initiatives undertaken by KS have the dual goal of increasing opportunities for play while also contributing to the development of foundational skills in literacy and numeracy. 

KS is seeking a consultant to develop organization capacity on assessing play-based learning . This consultant i.e. the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Advisor will be contracted to develop the capacity of KS’ team to design and develop evaluation frameworks that can be deployed by the organization to evaluate the impact of such activities, interventions and initiatives. 

The MEL Advisor will 

  • Review select existing and past programs implemented KS that utilized learning-through-play as a primary approach. 
  • Conduct a review of extant global literature and best practices on assessing the impact of play-based interventions as well on assessing characteristics of play itself. 
  • Understand gaps between current KS practices and global best practices. 
  • Develop a series of workshops and roundtable discussions for the KS leadership team, staff and frequent collaborators to deepen their understanding of approaches of assessing learning through play and assessing foundational skills. 
  • Summarize and systenize the findings of these discussions and workshops to present a “possible path forward” document that guides the organization in its approach. 

Required Qualifications 

  • At minimum, a Master’s degree in monitoring and evaluation, education, international development, or related field from an accredited university 
  • At least 6 years of experience related to monitoring, evaluating and reporting related to education 
  • A demonstrated history in utilizing non-traditional/emerging approaches (citizen led assessments, art’s based assessments etc) in addition to utilizing traditional evaluation methods and frameworks 
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to articulate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Experience in delivering effective capacity building activities 
  • Fluency in English and Nepali
