BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. Working with media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in claiming their rights, our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world. BBC Media Action reaches some 200 million people through local broadcast partners, BBC channels (especially the BBC World Service), online, mobile and print platforms and through interpersonal communication. We are currently delivering projects in 24 countries, including in Nepal. BBC Media Action has been working on communication for development projects in Nepal since 2007, giving us a well-developed understanding of Nepali audiences and significant experience of producing and evaluating media content on a range of issues to diverse target audiences.

BBC Media Action in Nepal plans to conduct nationwide large-scale mixed methods research (qualitative and quantitative). This research could include formative, evaluative and/or impact studies on topics such as information disorder, media literacy, media consumption, governance, disaster risk reduction etc. We are looking for potential research agencies with a proven ability to manage and execute large-scale research projects, to support the implementation and management of one or more research studies. The research agencies must have experience in executing quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies. This includes proficiency in fieldwork implementation and management, data management, processing and cleaning, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.

Eligibility:

  • Experience in conducting research (formative, baseline studies, action research, endline, evaluative, impact studies, etc.) in Nepal on topics such as information disorder, media literacy, disaster risk reduction, governance.
  • Ability to implement and manage quantitative surveys with a sample of at least 1000 people.
  • Ability to clean, process and manage a large survey dataset.
  • Ability to analyse a large survey dataset using SPSS or similar data analysis tools.
  • Ability to implement and manage qualitative surveys.
  • Ability to clean, process and manage qualitative data.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret qualitative data.
  • Commitment and practice of adherence to the highest standards of research processes.
  • Experience with media related research will be an advantage.

The application should include:

  • A capability statement (maximum of 10 pages) with a description of similar assignments. This should with include a section outlining how the agency will ensure quality of overall research including data, data collection, data cleaning, processing, management, and analysis.
  • Provide supporting documentation as required which could include links and/or references on previous assignments.
  • At least three CVs of key personnel (such as thematic experts, quantitative data analyst, qualitative data analyst etc).
  • An organogram.
  • Audit report of the past three financial years.
