About Data for Development Phase II
The Data for Development Program is implemented by The Asia Foundation and funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office. The second phase of the program builds upon the success and learnings from the first phase to strengthen the local data ecosystem in the provincial and local spheres to support the use of evidence for development.
The second phase of the program is being implemented in three provinces; Madhesh, Lumbini and Karnali. At present, the program is partnering with six local governments in these provinces. Birgunj Metropolitan and Janakpurdham Sub-metropolitan in Madhesh, Tulsipur Sub- Metropolitan and Suddhodhan Rural Municipality in Lumbini Province, Simta Rural Municipality and Lekbeshi Municipality in Karnali.
The program focuses on promoting open data as a tool to support evidence-based development. As such the program has been supporting the Open Data Day celebration through small grants. Giving continuity to the activity and to promote open data initiatives, the program plans to support the Open Data Day celebration in 2024.
Open Data Day Event Grants
In the era of digital transformation, data has become a cornerstone for innovation, transparency, and civic engagement. Open Data, the concept of making data freely available for anyone to use, share, and build upon, plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration, driving informed decision- making, and addressing pressing societal challenges. Open Data Day, an annual celebration of the global open data community, serves as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of open data and its potential impact on various sectors.
As we approach Open Data Day 2024 (March 2, 2024), we are excited to invite passionate organizations to join us in organizing events that contribute to the broader mission of promoting open data principles. Open Data Day 2024 provides a unique opportunity to highlight the significance of open data, share success stories, and collaborate on initiatives that leverage data for positive change.
