Purpose: The position holder will be responsible for maximizing Plan’s positive media coverage and fundraising opportunities, being accountable to key stakeholders accountable by communicating the humanitarian situation and Plan's emergency operations. S/He will lead in developing and amending communications plan for national and international media as needed and will establish and maintain excellent relationships with key national and international journalists. S/He will be acting as the focal point of contact to respond to the requests of media, journalists, NOs, and donors, including arranging interviews and field visits. 

Terms and Location: One (1) year fixed term employment based in Plan Nepal Country Office, Lalitpur with frequent travel to the field (at least 40%)

Core Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Mass Communications, International Public Relation studies and/or in relevant field.
  • At least five (5) years’ of work experiences in humanitarian aid context and strong experiences in handling sensitive media/journalist, speaking and writing reports and case studies. Also, strong understanding of print, radio, television and online media. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Works with trustworthiness and integrity and has a clear commitment to PLAN's values and principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle both internal and external liaisons and communications with national and international journalists, representative from other NGOs, National Offices and donors; and also with International Headquarters and Asia Regional Office communication persons.
  • Lead and manage VIPs, National Offices, and donors visits and develop content and media package for national and international coverage and visibility.
  • Support brand roll-out for emergency response team to ensure all relief materials, transportation and staff clothing are appropriately branded as per the project and grants requirements
  •  Monitor and evaluate the national and international media coverage and work closely with International Headquarters communication officers to produce documents on lesson learned and make recommendations for future operations.
