Roles and responsibilities of this job

Our client is an Australian-based company seeking a highly analytical Economist / Property Analyst to support our research, forecasting, and strategic decision-making across the Australian housing market. This is an offshore role requiring deep understanding of Australian economic conditions, housing market dynamics, and demographic trends.

Key Responsibilities:

Monitor and analyse RBA monetary policy decisions, interest rate movements, inflation, employment, and macroeconomic trends.
Interpret and report on key Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) datasets, including: Building approvals, Census data, Population growth (national, state, and territory levels), Housing supply and dwelling completions.
Analyse SQM Research data, vacancy rates, asking rents, and market indicators.
Assess the overall state of the Australian housing system, including supply-demand imbalances.
Conduct population forecasting and demographic trend analysis.
Perform catchment-level analysis (demographics, income, household composition, and housing demand).
Access, clean, consolidate, and interpret multiple public and private data sources.
Integrate findings into structured reports that support informed decision-making (ID economics framework).
Translate complex datasets into commercially relevant insights for property and investment decisions.
Produce high-quality written reports and market commentary for an Australian audience.

Required Education Level:Graduate (Masters)

Required Experience:More than 3 years

Other Specification

Strong understanding of the Australian economy, particularly RBA policy and its impact on housing markets.
Demonstrated experience analysing ABS data and Census datasets.
Experience working with Australian housing market data (SQM, CoreLogic, building approvals, etc.).
Strong knowledge of population statistics and forecasting methods.
Ability to interpret construction pipelines and building approval trends.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with data tools.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Ability to work independently in an offshore capacity while collaborating with an Australian team.

Ideal Candidate:

Background in economics, urban economics, property economics, statistics, or a related field.
Experience supporting property developers, investors, research firms, or advisory businesses.
Strong attention to detail with commercial awareness.
