Position: Economic Governance Advisor
Duty Station: Kathmandu

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Support and Advisory

  • Develop strategies and plans for implementation of inclusive economic governance activities and its approaches
  • Provide technical guidance and backstopping to project team on inclusive economic governance processes and issues
  • Support implementing partners in formulation of gender responsive and climate resilient policies and plans for sustainable economic development

2. Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support in liaison with government counterparts at all levels, private sector actors, and development partners to enhance coordination and program impact
  • Facilitate public-private dialogues and multi-stakeholder engagements to promote green and inclusive economic governance
  • Support for policy reforms that support sustainable and inclusive private sector development

3. Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening

  • Design and deliver training modules for capacity development of project partners to design and implement business-friendly policies that promote investment in inclusive and climate resilient agriculture
  • Establish and support Communities of Practice (CoP) to facilitate knowledge sharing
  • Support in the certification process for business-friendly municipalities, aligning with national and provincial economic governance frameworks

4. Monitoring and Knowledge Management 

  • Ensure proper planning and programming of project activities and their implementation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Provide technical inputs to assessments, and feasibility studies.
  • Ensure effective knowledge management by documenting, analyzing, and sharing best practices and lessons learned 

5. Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) Mainstreaming

  • Ensure project interventions are aligned with GIZ’s GESI strategy, promoting gender-transformative approaches in economic governance.
  • Support in developing and maintaining gender-sensitive monitoring frameworks to track progress, measure the impact of gender mainstreaming initiatives, and identify opportunities for improvement.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social science, economics, international development, or a related field. 

Professional Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ of professional experience in a comparable position 
  • Experience in establishing and facilitating collaborations with stakeholders including ministries, municipalities, private sectors, CSOs and development partners
  • Demonstrated expertise in local economic development with a focus on gender- responsive and climate-resilient strategies.
  • Proven track record in facilitating public-private dialogues and strengthening local governance.
  • Strong expertise in gender-transformative approaches to economic development, organizational development and in fostering and supporting communities of practice (COP)
  • Excellent knowledge of computer including MS Office (Word, Excel, mail, and Power Point)​

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills to foster partnerships and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Strategic thinking with a demonstrated ability to design scalable and impactful solutions for
  • innovation and sustainable development.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills to provide expert guidance on risk management, impact monitoring, and climate resilience.
  • Ability to share knowledge effectively and apply lessons learned for program improvement.
