The Leprosy Mission (TLM) is a UK based international non-government organization active in 34 countries; started its work in Nepal from 1957 with establishment of Anandaban Hospital in Lele, the sourthern part of Lalitpur. However, from 2005 TLM Nepal has been working as independent NGO in partnership with TLM international and the Government of Nepal to provide specialist tertiary care and technical support for leprosy control programs. It also undertakes internationally recognized research into leprosy and implements disability inclusive community development programs through its own activities and strategic partnership.

Being one of the largest NGOs in the country working in the field of leprosy, TLM Nepal mainly focuses in working with and for people affected by leprosy. Its development interventions focuses in the areas of health, capacity building, education, sustainable livelihoods, community development, advocacy and research working towards equity and inclusion of people affected by leprosy and disability in the development process.

Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job: 

The District focal person is an operational part of the Implementation Unit, established under the project with the role to mobilize communities for the implementation of project objectives in target areas. DFP will ensure that skin camps, new case referral for treatment, contact tracing and PEP administration activities along with awareness and other project activities have been implemented according to the standards and within the framework of TLMN standards.

Duties and Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support, notify local government (health) coordinator in coordination, planning and implementation of project activities. Provide backstopping for volunteers and health staff to sustain project activities and messaging, work closely with health facilities for health systems strengthening.
  •  Support in collection of secondary information on people affected by leprosy and LF in assigned project area using decided survey tools.
  • Organize monthly skin camps to ensure access to leprosy diagnosis and referral to treatment.
  • Conduct intensive contact tracing in target municipalities as per project target.
  • Construct and disseminate information on skin camps and project services through radio jingle and other IEC materials.
  • Provide technical support to health workers with knowledge, skills and empathy to diagnose and manage leprosy and LF illness and disabilities after confirmed diagnosis.
  • Provide training on safeguarding (after receiving TOT) and generate opportunities for project beneficiaries to provide feedback for learning and improvement.
  • Attend regular meetings and build sound relationship with beneficiaries and other community level stakeholders.
  • Prepare timely and comprehensive reports of all activities in project format.
  • Support in data collection for operational research (on effectiveness of contact tracing to break chains of transmission of leprosy, facilitate planned feedback mechanisms
  • Collect information for timely reporting to Project Team.
  • Support in local level; implementation of campaigns, mobilizing community members, spotlighting on gendered experiences of social stigma due to leprosy and importance of timely diagnosis.
  • Become experts on leprosy, to be able to provide technical support and training to beneficiaries who in turn are able to advocate and engage the Government to obtain their rights, services and entitlements.
  • Maintain relationships with local stakeholders in the community (FCHVs, HPs, local leaders, HWs, NGOs, etc.

General:
