Background

GeoKrishi initiative works with national and international partners including local government, NGO’s, farmers cooperatives and local service around Nepal. With an overarching goal to improve agricultural development and strengthening agriculture advisory and extension services, GeoKrishi (GK) works to integrate agricultural knowledge base and technologies for strengthening agriculture advisory/extension to make farmer and technician decision-making process. GeoKrishi gives priority to increasing awareness of and access to good agriculture practice, safe food production process including market, climate information, through participatory approaches to improve farm operation and supply chain at national and regional levels. Therefore GeoKrishi considers user engagement as an important component in the design and implementation of its platform and services. Activities to achieve this result focus on stakeholder engagement to increase buy-in related to extension services, developing and adopting standards of practices, and strengthening or developing appropriate platforms for sustained upscaling and enhancing product uptake.

Project Lead (Agriculture) will manage, coordinate, and monitor project activities and relationships with partners and other project stakeholders to assist the achievement of the GeoKrishi objectives advancing agriculture advisory serving the poor and vulnerable farmers. The Project Lead (Agriculture) will manage the operational project cycle of GeoKrishi in Nepal.

His/her project management skills and knowledge of the program area will ensure that the GK delivers high-quality delivery of service and continuously works towards improving the impact of this project. This is a Key Personnel position and reports to the core management team. S/he will manage a small team of appropriate technical, trainers and call agents. 

Job Specification

  • Bachelor/Master Degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, Business Administration or related area is required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of program management experience in agricultural sector.
  • Good communications and relationship management skills and the ability to work closely with local partners, and other stakeholders is required.
  • Good experience and ability to deliver training and facilitate a workshop with various stakeholders
  • Experience in contributing to the development of technical proposals is a plus
  • Experience in working with the local farmer's community is a plus
  • Ability to identify relevant collaboration partners within and outside the institution; maintain existing linkages and effectively communicate with stakeholders on different levels.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Staff supervision experience.
  • Experience working with stakeholders at various levels and strengthening community partnerships.
  • Experience analyzing data and contributing to evaluation reports.
  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Conferencing Applications, information management systems, video edition tool.
  • Proactive approach for effective capacity building and training activities
  • Social/team competency: Ability to work smoothly and effectively with others in the team to establish constructive ideas or solutions that meet the team objective
  • Flexibility: Ability to easily adapt to changing contexts, technologies and approaches when necessary; make improvements in own work area
  • Report Writing: Ability to contribute to the preparation and consolidation of reports

Job Description 

The Project Lead (Agriculture) will be responsible for designing innovative approaches for enhancing the platform and services uptake by the users and their upscaling, ensuring that user consultation and their participation are integrated across GeoKrishi activities. More specifically, the Project Lead (Agriculture) will perform the following tasks:

  • Lead technical, management, monitoring and reporting activities throughout most of the project cycle - inception, implementation and regularize extension services to the farmers and partners.
  • Develop a framework to ensure effective stakeholder engagement in different phases of service planning and design.
  • Develop user engagement strategies to ensure stakeholder involvement upfront for in design and prototyping of different services
  • Develop innovative approaches to enhance uptake and maintenance of products and services and their upscaling.
  • Design approaches and templates that guide systematic user engagement as well as work closely with other key personnel to define roles and responsibilities for completing user engagement tasks.
  • Systematically identify stakeholders and coordinate with them through needs assessment exercises and market studies.
  • Regularly contribute information to the user database and other knowledge management tools related to user engagement and outreach
  • Ensure that all GeoKrishi activities incorporate user engagement components in their design and implementation of platform and service
  • Coordinate with the team members and devise plans with thorough participation to ensure that program goals and milestones are met
