General Summary and Background

The purpose of the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project is to ensure uninterrupted supplies of health commodities in support of US Government (USG)-funded public health initiatives around the world. The project provides direct procurement and supply chain management support to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and Population and Reproductive Health. In supporting USG-funded global health activities, GHSC-PSM will develop and manage a wide array of services for health commodity procurement and related systems strengthening technical assistance encompassing different elements of a comprehensive supply chain.

At the country level, GHSC-PSM supports country strategies and priorities that fall under the following three project objectives:

  • Global Commodity Procurement and Logistics
  • Systems Strengthening Technical Assistance
  • Global Collaboration to Improve Long-Term Availability of Health Commodities

Assignment

The photographer will be responsible for capturing images to support the Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project in Nepal. The purpose of the GHSC-PSM project is to ensure uninterrupted supplies of health commodities in support of U.S. government-funded public health initiatives around the world. The project provides direct procurement and supply chain management support to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), USAID’s family planning and reproductive health program, and maternal and child health program. To support U.S. government-funded global health activities, GHSC-PSM manages a wide array of health commodity procurement services and provides related systems strengthening technical assistance encompassing all elements of a comprehensive supply chain.  GHSC-PSM seeks a photographer to capture compelling photography to provide visual interest—and create a human connection—to program communications, such as social media posts, reports, and blog posts.

Approach

The photographer will liaise with a designated member of the GHSC-PSM program team to acquaint him/herself with the requirements of the assignment prior to the photography session. During the period of the contract, he/she will accompany the GHSC-PSM Communications’ Team Personnel to the following location(s):

  • Capture high quality resolution photographs that depicts USAID support to the Nepal health supply chain system through GSHC-PSM. This will include visits to health facilities (health centers, hospitals, and provincial medical stores) where USAID-funded commodities are used to provide service to clients.   
  • The photographs will capture images showing service delivery and using USAID-funded health commodities, warehouses that store project-procured USAID commodities, USAID-supported transport services, staff involved in service delivery and clients benefitting from commodities procured using funding. 
  • Beneficiaries of HIV/AIDs, maternal newborn and child health, family planning/reproductive services, health facility service deliver, health workers etc. would all be a part of the of the beneficiaries to be photographed. 

KMC manager will provide the required orientation to the photographer. 

Specific Tasks/Responsibilities 

The photographer will be responsible for capturing images to complement the written documentation for GHSC-PSM Nepal .   

Responsibilities include: 

  • High resolution publishable photographs in jpeg format. 
  • Obtaining consent (Project team will provide form). The photographer must secure verbal consent from photography subjects. Consent is not needed in the following instances:

                      1. Non-recognizable individuals in public (faces and all other identifying features are obscured)

                      2. Public figures in public (e.g. celebrities, Ministers of Health at campaign launches)

  • Operate and maintain all photography equipment. 
  • Download and catalog photos daily. 
  • Work collaboratively with project members. 
  • The photographer should be mindful of capturing a variety of workers in the supply chain performing different functions — young and old, male, and female. The photographer should also consider close, intimate shots, as well as shots that
  • Establish the individuals in their setting. A variety of camera angles is encouraged.
  • The photographer must catalog all photos by location to make them easy to pair with the corresponding photo file.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience photographing diverse themes and producing a variety of desirable images.
  • Ability to move quickly and photograph from different angles.
  • Experience operating professional digital photography equipment.
  • Cultural sensitivity and diplomatic skills.
  • Journalism or communications background desirable.
  • English language fluency; local language capability desired.
  • Experience or ability to effectively incorporate USAID branding 

Timing and Duration

  • 10 days from June 8, 2022, through June 17, 2022 for on-site documentation + post process work in specified locations in Kathmandu and one of the Provinces of Nepal.

Deliverables

  • All photographs taken in RAW or high-resolution1 JPG format delivered electronically via
  • platform such as Dropbox. Submission photo size should be 1 MB or larger.
  • Minimum of 30 digital, post-processed (i.e., edited) photographs in RAW or high-resolution JPG
  • format delivered electronically via platform such as Dropbox.
  • Complete set of photo release forms scanned and delivered electronically via
  • platform such as Dropbox.
  • All photographs must print at least 300 dpi when sized 18 in x 12 in.
  • Notes of any specific requirements from photography subjects regarding photo usage.

All the logistics will be managed by the project.
