Project Overview
In 2018, the Government of Nepal took a significant step by developing country’s first Priority Assistive Product List (PAPL), enlisting 45 Assistive Products (AP). Currently, Nepal is actively engaged in revising its national PAPL to improve access to AT for all. This review process includes a thorough analysis of AT needs and delivery capacity using the World Health Organization’s Assistive Technology Capacity Assessment (ATA-C), revising the PAPL, and advocating for more public and private financing through a costed investment case. The implementation of these objectives will result in an improved AT investment environment in Nepal, with accessible and affordable AT services for all, benefiting quality of life and productivity.
Summary of Job Purpose:
The consultant will undertake the following tasks: Technical inputs and PAPL revision process: Engage with relevant stakeholders, including government entities, healthcare professionals, and advocacy groups, to gather expert opinion and technical assistance to ensure inclusivity in revised PAPL. Develop the revised PAPL list: Develop a document that includes the revised PAPL, highlighting the rationale for each product based on the context of Nepal. Expert guidance on ATA-C report and support in developing a detailed costing analysis of AT: Review and provide expert guidance, feedback, and recommendations on the ATA-C report findings and support the development of a comprehensive local investment case for AT in Nepal, providing valuable insights and guidance throughout the process.
Educational qualifications and experiences:
Educational Qualifications: Advanced degree in assistive technology, Master of Science program in prosthetics and orthotics, medical or rehabilitation science or engineering, public health, or any related field.
Experience: Over 10 years’ professional experience in the field of rehabilitation and AT along with policy design, standard formulation, product development and research. Previous working experience with government agencies, WHO, other international organizations, and/or major institutions in the field of assistive technology, disability & rehabilitation, aging, or related topics.
