North South Collectives (NSC) is an interdisciplinary social and policy research center. The Collectives promote critical public dialogues, research fellowships for equity and social justice, and investment in the generation of scholars and filmmakers. The Collectives is evolving as a leading interdisciplinary center and a public forum committed to freedom, equity, and prosperity. The Collectives works to strengthen and expand regional and national networks of individuals and institutions to build a just and equitable society. To enable and enhance knowledge, innovation, and solutions, the Collectives grapple with the pressing issues confronting humankind today: democracy, economic order, legal regimes, cultural rights, social inequalities and power relations, migration, science and technology, public policy, and social progress. In the past, NSC organized public lecture series on various issues related to federalism, elections, history, indigeneity, and other topics. NSC has also completed research programs in coordination with different education and health institutions and is currently involved with a pilot study in ‘social science for social justice. ’NSC has also completed film workshops. Project: Promoting Inclusion through Media Fellowship in Madhesh

1. Background

North South Collective (NSC) is an interdisciplinary social and policy research center committed to promoting freedom, equity, and prosperity. NSC engages with pressing issues such as democracy, migration, social inequalities, and public policy. NSC “Promoting Inclusion Through Media Fellowship in Madhesh,” funded by the USAID Civil Society and Media (CSM) Program, aims to support youth, women, and marginalized (WYM) communities in Madhesh by forming and strengthening civil society networks, to advance issues raised by NSC media fellows.

The objective of the Assignment

The consultant will identify the right-based CSOs from each district of Madhesh province. Mapping the scope of collaboration with NSC in WYM issue-based advocacy to advance their issue in wider civil society.

 Tasks to be Performed

  • Identify women, youth, and marginalized-led CSOs and issue-based CSOs in each district of Madhesh Province.
  • Facilitate the formation and strengthening of issue-based networks, especially focusing on WYM issues.
  • Support NSC to establish a CSO network including each district’s CSO representation.
  • Submit inception report, process report, and final report including the scope of collaboration with potential CSOs of Madhesh province.

Expected Outputs

  • Support to form issue-based networks involving CSOs and civic actors in Madhesh Province.
  • Strengthening of existing but ineffective networks to ensure their active role in promoting WYM community issues.
  • Enhanced collaboration between media fellows and CSOs to advance their advocacy of WYM issues.
  • Comprehensive reports on network activities and their impact on local advocacy efforts.

Approach : The consultant will design the approach based on the requirement with consultation withNSC.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Sociology, or a related discipline from an accredited academic institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in research, field study/survey, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience working with women, youth, and marginalized communities, preferably in the context of Madhesh Province.
  • Strong understanding of network-building and capacity-strengthening of CSOs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Familiarity with USAID-funded programs is an advantage.

NSC is committed to child safeguarding and upholds a rigorous anti-harassment policy. The selection process will involve strict background checks to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable populations. All candidates must demonstrate alignment with NSC’s safeguarding policies.

Duration

The consultancy is for 15 days. This consultancy is expected to run from Dec 1st, 2024, to15 th Dec 2024. The consultant will work full-time during this period and will be based at the North-south collectives and travel to the field as necessary.
