Gender Equality, disability and social inclusion, GEDSI, is one of the cross-cutting focuses of the SUSWA project, and part of a human rights-based approach (HRBA) to programming. During the inception period, the Project will prepare a strategy, outlined in a Strategic note, covering gender, social and disability inclusion, analysing the norms and root causes of the discriminatory practices, as well as how to address them in implementation and monitoring to show the progress towards transformative change.

For undertaking the development of a GEDSI strategy, including desk research, consultations, reviewing, analysis, designing step by step guidance, revising project documents and writing the GEDSI Strategic note, the Project is looking to hire a short term consultant.

Required qualifications

  • A master’s degree in social science, behavioral science, gender studies, political science, development studies or related subjects. PhD strongly preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of (ideally professional) experience of working on Gender Equality / Women’s Empowerment, with a track record of research and reports on related subjects
  • Experience in WASH projects
  • Proven track record of a strong conceptual understanding of disability inclusive development and HRBA to disability
  • Proven track record of planning activities for behavioral change, e.g., knowledge on behavioral insights, social norm signaling
  • Proven track record of working with local government
  • Previous experience of working for bilateral development projects, Non-Governmental Organizations (e.g., for Women’s rights organizations or Organisations for Persons with Disability) on topics related to GESI mainstreaming or disability inclusion or behavioral change
  • Excellent command of English
  • Publications authored or co-authored seen as an asset
  • Experience of participation in facilitation of actions/activities in rural areas of Karnali seen as an asset
  • Knowledge or experience on GEDSI in the context of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation and mitigation seen as an asset
