professionals for the Project “Green Resilient Agricultural-Centered Privat Sector Development” GRAPE
II.

GRAPE II is a collaborative project between Nepal and Germany, guided by the Ministry of Land
Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation (MoLCPA) of the Government of Nepal. It is
implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of
the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The project collaborates with the Government of Nepal and other partners to enhance conditions for
gender-equitable and climate-resilient economic development. This is achieved by supporting businesses
that contribute positively to these goals, with a particular focus on women's economic empowerment.

The project focuses on four key areas:

  1.  Private Sector Development: Supporting new and existing businesses that contribute positively to gender equality and climate resilience
  2. Gender responsive partnerships in climate resilient and biodiversity friendly value chains
  3. Local Economic Governance: Promoting gender-responsive and climate-resilient economic development through improved local governance.
  4. Upscaling Good Practices: Expanding successful practices for a gender equitable and climate resilient economic development

Activities within the area of Local Economic Governance:

  • Strengthen capacities for Gender-Responsive, Climate-Resilient Economic Development at municipal and provincial levels to support inclusive, sustainable economic growth.
  • Support Local Economic Development Strategies: Accompany selected municipalities in creating and implementing participatory economic development strategies and action plans with a focus on gender equality and climate resilience.
  • Strengthen Communities of Practice: Foster and support communities of practice to encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration among municipalities.
  • Facilitate Public-Private Dialogue: Promote the creation and institutionalization of public-private dialogue forums to enable effective exchange and collaboration.
  • Promote financial mechanisms and certification programs that support sustainable local economic development initiatives.

Position: Component Manager Economic Governance
Duty Station: Kathmandu

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the area of Enhancing Local Economic Governance in alignment with project objectives, partner agreements, and team directives. Maintain accountability for project deliverables and outcomes.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Guide and mentor team members in line with GIZs principles of cooperation and leadership, fostering an inclusive and results-driven work culture.
  • Strategic Advisory and Partnership Management: Provide expert advice to partners and maintain active collaboration with key stakeholders, enhancing partnerships that support sustainable private sector development.
  • Drive Innovation and Knowledge Sharing: Lead knowledge management initiatives, promoting innovative practices and communicating key developments and insights to a broad, diverse audience.
  • Integrate Learning and Results: Embed project results and lessons learned into team processes and broader organizational practices, supporting continuous improvement across relevant groups.
  • Technical Support and Backstopping: Provide technical guidance for the implementation of global work packages and initiatives with the private sector.

Required qualifications and experience:

Educational Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social sciences, economics, international development, or a related field. Equivalent qualifications will be considered.

Professional Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position with management experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in local economic development with a focus on gender- responsive and climate-resilient strategies.
  • Proven track record in facilitating public-private dialogues and strengthening local governance.
  • Strong expertise in gender-transformative approaches to economic development, organizational development and in fostering and supporting communities of practice.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with a proven track record in driving results and implementing solutions. Experience in managing remote teams is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional organizational and strategic planning skills, with cultural awareness, adaptability, and resilience to work effectively across diverse settings.
  • Strong networking and communication skills, capable of building and maintaining partnerships across public and private sectors and engaging in policy and technical discussions at multiple levels.

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluent in English for business purposes
