USAID Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) project is an adolescent co-led initiative to empower girls and boys, 10-19 years including the most marginalized, to attain their adolescent reproductive health (ARH) rights. The goal of the program is to support adolescents to reach their full potential by; ensuring they receive correct and appropriate reproductive health (RH) information and guidance to decision-making skills, creating an environment conductive in making healthy reproductive health decisions and facilitating translation of these decisions into healthy behaviors.

Communications and External Relations Strategist (Based in Kathmandu)

The Communications and External Relations Strategist will lead and coordinate strategic communications on behalf of CARE Nepal. S/he is responsible to strengthen CARE Nepal’s internal and external communications utilizing full range of communications channel for influence, advocacy and resource mobilization. S/he will report to the Country Director and serve as a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT). S/he will play key role in liaison, coordination and reputation management with CARE’s partners, other I/NGOs, civil society networks, government stakeholders, donors, journalists and media organizations.

S/he will provide strategic planning and leadership for CARE Nepal’s visibility and influence in Nepal. S/he will develop communications strategy outlining priority message to reach key internal/external audience segment, work with the country office team to prioritize highest-value publications, events, media/social media campaigns, identify the most compelling impact data, innovation story, emerging trends, and field anecdotes through engagement in various meetings and share with the key audience segments via the best communications channel to achieve the desired actions or results.

 S/he will work closely with program team and partners in preparation and production of priority communication materials. S/he is responsible to build capacity of CARE Nepal staffs and partners in the field of communication and supervise freelance photographers, videographers, designers, writers, and translators as required. S/he is accountable to ensure that the organizational information when disseminated are correct and permitted message in line with CARE principles, core values, and branding guidelines. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: 

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in media, communications, advocacy, sociology, politics or other relevant field.

Experience:

Minimum eight years of experience in relevant field of work such as communications, journalism, information management, public relations, media relations and advocacy.

Skills and knowledge:

  • Excellent in creating internal and external communications strategies, plans and products, reaching diverse  audience.
  • Expertise in building visibility with key audiences/customers and media relations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Strong coordination, networking and advocacy skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written language skills in both English and Nepali.
  • Advanced Social Media Skills.
  • Good editing and writing skills.
  • Ability to supervise freelance photographer, videographer, designer and writer.
  • Knowledge of relevant video / photo editing software preferred.
