Position Title: Communications Intern – Volunteers Initiative Nepal (ViN)
Location: ViN Office, Kathmandu
Duration: 6 Months (Full-time; potential for permanent employment as Communication Officer)
Stipend: NPR 23,000 per month (covers transportation, food, and communication)

About Volunteers Initiative Nepal (ViN)

ViN is a leading grassroots NGO dedicated to empowering marginalized communities through education, women’s empowerment, health, youth development, and volunteerism. For over 20 years, ViN has enabled thousands of local and international volunteers to create lasting change in Nepal’s most vulnerable communities.

Now, we are searching for a Communications Intern to join our vibrant team and help amplify our message to a global audience.

What You’ll Do: Your Role at ViN

As a Communications Intern, you’ll play a hands-on role in shaping and sharing ViN’s story. You’ll be mentored by experienced staff and have real responsibility from day one. Your core duties will include:

1. Storytelling & Content Creation

  • Collect inspiring stories, testimonials, photos, and videos from ViN’s projects, volunteers, and beneficiaries.
  • Write and edit compelling blog articles, volunteer spotlights, project updates, and newsletters that connect with audiences emotionally and intellectually.
  • Capture the spirit of ViN’s work through social media posts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, etc.), short videos, and digital campaigns.
  • Support the documentation of program impact through interviews, case studies, and visual storytelling.

2. Digital Communication & Outreach

  • Regularly update and manage ViN’s website content to keep project pages, FAQs, and volunteer information current and accurate.
  • Design eye-catching visuals and graphics using tools like Canva or Photoshop (training can be provided).
  • Schedule, publish, and monitor posts across all major social media platforms.
  • Engage with audiences online: respond to comments, direct messages, and inquiries in a friendly, timely, and professional manner.

3. Volunteer Recruitment & Support

  • Assist in managing volunteer inquiries via email, phone, social media, and online platforms.
  • Help review applications, coordinate interviews, and prepare orientation materials.
  • Communicate essential program information, logistical details, and travel tips to volunteers before arrival.
  • Welcome and support international volunteers upon their arrival, helping them settle in and making sure their ViN experience is exceptional.

4. Partnership & Public Relations

  • Help research and reach out to universities, professional networks, and partner organizations to promote ViN’s opportunities.
  • Collaborate on creating content for external websites, newsletters, and partner communications.
  • Support in organizing campaigns, fundraising drives, and events that build ViN’s network and reputation.

5. Database & Resource Management

  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of volunteers, partners, and sponsors.
  • Organize digital folders, photos, handover reports, and promotional materials for easy access and retrieval.

6. Strategic Communication

  • Assist in developing and updating ViN’s long-term communication plan.
  • Monitor best practices and trends in NGO communication and propose creative ideas to strengthen ViN’s outreach.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, share updates, and contribute to ongoing improvement.

Who We’re Looking For

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mass Media, Communications, Journalism, Development Studies, or a relevant field (Master’s degree preferred).

Experience & Skills:

  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills in English (Nepali language proficiency is a plus).
  • Interest or experience in digital media, social media management, or storytelling.
  • Passion for development, social justice, volunteerism, and community empowerment.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and in a team, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Skills in photography, video editing, graphic design, or website content management are highly desirable but not required (willingness to learn is more important!).
  • Positive, enthusiastic, and proactive attitude—eager to grow and contribute.
