The Leprosy Mission (TLM) is a UK based international non-government organization active in 34 countries; started its work in Nepal from 1957 with establishment of Anandaban Hospital in Lele, the sourthern part of Lalitpur. However, from 2005 TLM Nepal has been working as independent NGO in partnership with TLM international and the Government of Nepal to provide specialist tertiary care and technical support for leprosy control programs. It also undertakes internationally recognized research into leprosy and implements disability inclusive community development programs through its own activities and strategic partnership.

Being one of the largest NGOs in the country working in the field of leprosy, TLM Nepal mainly focuses in working with and for people affected by leprosy. Job Description

The Clinical Lab Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the clinical laboratory at Anandaban Hospital, including support to Patan clinic, field camps and satellite clinics. The role requires ensuring high-quality laboratory services, maintaining standards, and contributing to research and infection control efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage daily operations of the clinical laboratory at the main hospital, Patan clinic, field camps, and satellite clinics, ensuring smooth workflow and optimal use of resources.
  • Maintain high standards in the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of laboratory test results and reports, ensuring alignment with clinical needs and protocols.
  • Take full responsibility of the laboratory unit, managing all lab staff (technicians, technologists, and support staff).
  • Ensure proper documentation, validation, and quality assurance of all laboratory data and activities; conduct routine audits and take corrective actions where needed.
  • Oversee and enforce strict compliance with biohazard safety, waste management, infection prevention and control, and biosafety protocols.
  • Lead the implementation and periodic review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for specimen collection, processing, testing, result reporting, and equipment maintenance.
  • Ensure accurate and complete reporting of results in coordination with clinical teams, including timely communication of critical values.
  • Actively report to the Medical Superintendent on laboratory activities, staff performance, resource needs, and challenges.
  • Participate actively in interdepartmental meetings, hospital planning meetings, and decision-making discussions relevant to diagnostics and patient care.
  • Represent the laboratory department in seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional forums as assigned.
  • Plan and manage laboratory inventories, equipment maintenance, and procurement processes in collaboration with hospital administration.
  • Collaborate with the Infection Control Committee and actively participate in its meetings and decision-making processes.
  • Provide capacity-building support to the laboratory team through on-the-job training, evaluations, and competency assessments.
  • Support research projects and clinical trials through planning, sample management, data documentation, and ethical compliance.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports, data summaries, technical presentations, and publications as required by hospital management.
  • Take the lead in troubleshooting technical issues in the laboratory and implementing sustainable solutions.
  • Ensure integration and coordination of lab services with hospital departments and community-based health interventions.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by the Medical Superintendent or senior hospital leadership.
