Job Description

PLACE OF WORK: OPD, Emergency Unit, Radiology, CT scan, MRI, NCS, EEG, EMG, etc.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Physician / Surgeon / Nursing Supervisor
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Assisting in the provision of patient care, maintaining clinical environments, and supporting healthcare staff
RELATION WITH: Patients, doctors, nurses, allied health staff, administrative personnel

ROLE: The Clinical Assistant supports medical and nursing staff in delivering patient care, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for procedures, maintaining patient records, and ensuring medical equipment is sterile and functional. This role helps enhance the patient experience and ensures smooth clinical operations within the hospital.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Support and Care Assistance:

  • Assist in preparing patients for examinations and medical procedures.
  • Take vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and respiratory rate.
  • Provide comfort and assistance to patients during their time in the hospital/OPD, including offering support with mobility, dressing, or personal care.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, medications, and pre-procedure instructions as directed by the Doctor and other health care team. 

Medical Equipment Preparation and Maintenance:

  • Ensure that medical equipment is clean, sterilized, and properly set up for procedures.
  • Report any issues with equipment functionality and assist in ensuring the availability of necessary tools.
  • Assist healthcare providers during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Clinical Documentation and Patient Records:

  • Accurately record patient data, including medical histories, symptoms, and test results in patient files or electronic health records (EHR).
  • Ensure patient records are complete, updated, and maintained in accordance with hospital protocols and regulations.
  • Assist with tracking patient progress, follow-up appointments, and treatment plans.

Assistance with Clinical Procedures:

  • Provide direct assistance during clinical procedures, including specimen collection, administering injections, dressing wounds, and performing routine lab tests.
  • Assist in positioning patients for procedures or surgeries as necessary.

Infection Control and Safety Protocols:

  • Follow infection control and safety protocols to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Ensure that all equipment, instruments, and patient areas are sanitized to prevent contamination or infection.
  • Assist in maintaining and checking emergency equipment, such as defibrillators, oxygen tanks, and first-aid supplies.

Patient and Staff Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers, providing updates on patient status and care instructions.
  • Relay important patient information to medical staff for further evaluation or treatment.
  • Support patients with any non-clinical inquiries, ensuring their comfort and understanding during their stay.
  • Relay messages and coordinate with the management and the police in cases of RTA and accidents.

Administrative Support:

  • Schedule appointments, coordinate tests, and manage patient flow through the hospital.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, answering patient calls, and managing patient intake.
  • Support the management of medical supplies, ensuring inventory levels are maintained and assisting in ordering necessary items.

QUALIFICATION: 

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with a valid certificate from the Nepal Health Professional Council and prior experience in a hospital setting
