FHI 360 has been working in Nepal since 1993. Together with the Government of Nepal (GoN), civil society, and the private sector, FHI 360 works collaboratively in the areas of HIV, family planning (FP)/reproductive health (RH), health security and one health, nutrition, COVID-19 response, procurement, and supply chain management, local capacity strengthening, civil society and media strengthening, governance reform, and the environment and climate change.

Civil Society Officer

The Civil Society Officer is responsible for providing necessary support to Technical Advisor for Civil Society for planning, execution, reporting, documentation, and management of program activities. Under the guidance of the supervisor, the Officer is also responsible to support partner organizations, civil society organization (CSO) networks, and media for clean air rights and advocacy, capacity strengthening, planning, and implementation of clean air rights and advocacy activities within Kathmandu Valley.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the supervisor to provide necessary support in designing, implementing, and documenting all interventions for civil society, clean air rights and advocacy in close coordination with implementing partners, USAID Clean Air and FHI 360 Nepal Office team.
  • Support supervisor in preparation of annual and quarterly implementation plan and budget as well as prepare a detailed implementation plan.
  • Provide necessary support for facilitation to national and local CSO coalitions and networks working alongside the rights to clean air and related areas.
  • Support the overall development and implementation of strategies to engage civil society organizations, community-based groups, youth groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide necessary support for engaging team members in analyzing progress related to the USAID Clean Air on civil society and media engagement.
  • Support development of joint reports with national coalitions and identify good practices for monitoring and reporting on clean air rights and advocacy.
  • Support in finalizing advocacy issues of USAID Clean Air partners and in ensuring that these issues are agreed upon by the CSO networks at the municipal level.
  • Provide technical support to CSO networks in analyzing evidence generated by them, and assist them in using evidence for advocacy.
  • Provide support to CSOs in developing advocacy plans/strategies and in ensuring that those plans are agreed by CSO networks, and implement these advocacy plans effectively.
  • Provide support CSO networks in disseminating findings of oversight functions and link these findings as evidence for advocacy plans/strategies prepared by CSOs.
  • Provide support to the supervisor in bringing together CSO networks and partners in connecting local-level issues of advocacy with federal and provincial networks/coalitions for policy-level advocacy so that these issues are heard at provincial/federal levels.
  • Provide support in using information and communications technology (ICT) and data in advocacy and oversight of public services delivery and resource use related to clean air rights.
  • Provide necessary support to design and deliver training, workshops, meetings, and other actions required.
  • Prepare weekly updates, event reports and meeting minutes as required.
  • Work closely with USAID Clean Air Program Officer to provide necessary details for initiating admin related requests including procurement requests for events, goods and services, settling expenses related to activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, rural development, political science or a related field with three to five years of experience or master's degree with one to three years of experience in the above-mentioned field.
  • Experience in engaging CSO and media for advocacy and accountability with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of civic space, citizen engagement, advocacy, and CSO/media oversight is required.
  • Experience in working effectively across various teams within the project and with external stakeholders.
  • Proactive in managing multiple tasks, managing, and working in the virtual work environment, and flexible and open to managing time for working with different teams both in FHI 360 and with partner organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, team building and management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written English and Nepali including documentation skills.
