Position Overview: Chief Investment Officer (CIO)

Garima Capital Limited is seeking a seasoned and visionary professional to lead our Investment Management Department and Investment Operations. As Chief Investment Officer (CIO), you will be responsible for spearheading the development, execution, and oversight of comprehensive investment strategies across diverse asset classes. The CIO will manage all investment portfolios, drive performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and embed strong risk management practices within all investment processes.

This leadership role is pivotal in aligning investment activities with the company’s strategic objectives, while ensuring operational excellence and sustainable financial performance. The CIO will work across mutual funds, portfolio management services (PMS), and proprietary investments, and serve as a key advisor to the CEO, Investment Committee, and Board of Directors.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in investment strategy, strong leadership capabilities, and a results-driven mindset, complemented by a clear understanding of regulatory frameworks set by the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute long-term, multi-asset investment strategies across equity, debt, money market instruments, and alternative investments.
  • Design and implement internal investment policies, governance structures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Oversee all investment portfolios, including mutual funds, discretionary portfolios, and proprietary investments, ensuring optimal performance and risk-adjusted returns.
  • Monitor asset allocation and ensure alignment with client objectives, risk tolerance, and regulatory parameters.
  • Evaluate fund and PMS performance against benchmarks and adjust strategies as needed to maximize returns.
  • Lead and mentor the investment management, mutual fund, and investment operations teams, fostering a culture of high performance, integrity, and innovation.
  • Oversee efficient execution of investment transactions and reporting, ensuring full compliance with internal controls and SEBON regulations.
  • Prepare strategic investment reports, performance analyses, and presentations for senior management, the Board of Directors, and the Investment Committee.
  • Integrate macroeconomic, sectoral, and securities research into investment decision- making processes.
  • Maintain a forward-looking perspective on domestic and global financial markets, identifying opportunities and mitigating potential risks.
  • Ensure robust risk management systems are in place to monitor and control market, credit, and liquidity risks.
  • Uphold compliance with SEBON, AML/CFT guidelines, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Lead recruitment, development, and performance management of investment professionals, promoting continuous learning and professional excellence.
  • Engage with institutional and high-net-worth clients, providing strategic insights and thought leadership on investment matters.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business development, compliance, audit, and client servicing to deliver integrated investment solutions.
  • Represent the investment division in investor meetings, roadshows, and public forums.
  • Analyze regulatory updates from Nepal Rastra Bank, the Insurance Board, SEBON, and other relevant bodies, assessing their impact on investment strategy.
  • Provide investment recommendations and conduct due diligence on potential investment opportunities, including financial growth prospects and risk assessments.

Qualification and Profile of Candidate:

Qualification (Education):

  • Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or equivalent or,
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Accountant (CA), or Financial Risk Manager (FRM)

Candidate Profile:

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the investment management domain, with at least 2 years in a senior leadership or decision-making role within the financial services industry.
  • In-depth understanding of investment management principles, asset allocation strategies, and financial markets.
  • Comprehensive understanding of capital markets, investment instruments, and valuation methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of SEBON and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven track record in leading investment teams and managing large-scale portfolios.
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and decision-making abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence at the highest levels.
  • Comfortable working with clients of diverse backgrounds and expectations.
