About the organization
The Nepal Association of the Blind (NAB) is the only rights-based umbrella organization representing blind and partially sighted persons in Nepal. Established in 1993, NAB comprises 7 provincial committees, 46 district branches, and 2,520 general members. Registered under number 320 at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, NAB advocates for the protection and promotion of the rights and interests of blind and partially sighted persons throughout the country. NAB is a member of the World Blind Union and the National Federation of Disabled-Nepal and is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council. The organization implements programs related to education, vocational training, sustainable livelihood, advocacy, assistive devices, legal literacy, and organizational development to ensure dignity, inclusion, and independent living for blind and partially sighted persons across Nepal.
To achieve its goals, Nepal Association of the Blind has been implementing various activities in four municipalities of Kailali district and one municipality of Kanchanpur district in partnership with the Norwegian Association of Blind and Partially Sighted under the Collective Action for Disability Rights (CADiR) consortium program. The consortium in Nepal includes the National Federation of the Disabled Nepal (NFD-N), National Federation of the Deaf Nepal (NDFN), Parent Federation of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PFPID Nepal), and Nepal Netrajyoti Sangh (NNJS) and five organizations in Norway.
