Role Overview 

As a Backend Developer, you will work on creating robust, scalable, and high-performing server-side applications using Laravel and PHP. Your role will involve designing and maintaining REST APIs, working on database architecture (SQL/NoSQL), and collaborating with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration. You’ll have the opportunity to engage in DevOps processes, optimizing the deployment and scalability of applications on AWS. 

You’ll also collaborate with Team Lead and other departments to understand business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions. As an experienced backend developer, you’ll mentor junior developers, ensuring that your team follows best coding practices, performance optimization, and documentation standards. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities 

• Develop and maintain backend applications using Laravel and PHP, ensuring that code is clean, well-organized, and scalable. 
• Design and maintain RESTful APIs, integrating them with front-end components and external services to deliver fully functional web applications. 
• Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration of user interfaces with server-side logic and optimize performance. 
• Build and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code, ensuring applications are responsive, secure, and capable of handling high loads. 
• Implement and optimize database solutions using SQL, NoSQL, and MySQL to ensure data integrity, performance, and scalability. 
• Mentor junior developers, leading by example in writing well-structured, maintainable code and advocating for best practices across the team. 
• Ensure best practices are followed in software development, including code reviews, testing, and documentation standards. 
• Participate in DevOps processes and CI/CD pipelines, improving deployment speed and application reliability. 
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends, bringing innovative solutions to enhance backend capabilities. 
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks, working with the team to identify and mitigate technical issues as they arise. 
• Proper use of task management and time logging tools to comply with project plans and timelines. 
• Prepare documentation and knowledge transfer materials to ensure ongoing project success and ease of collaboration. 

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience 

• Proven work experience (3+ years) as a Backend Developer with expertise in PHP and Laravel. 
• Strong knowledge of database management, including hands-on experience with SQL, NoSQL, and MySQL databases. 
• A clear understanding of RESTful API development and experience building and maintaining scalable APIs. 
• Hands-on experience with version control systems (Git), ensuring proper management of code repositories and collaboration. 
• Experience using version control systems like GitLab or GitHub for efficient code management and collaboration. 
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly, both in writing and in person, to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
• Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus to ensure smooth API integration and collaboration with front-end teams. 
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, especially in troubleshooting application bugs and performance issues. 
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, mentoring junior developers and contributing to knowledge sharing within the team. 
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field (or equivalent experience). 

Good to have: 

• Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks for PHP applications (e.g. PHPUnit). 
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, helping to automate and streamline development workflows. 
• Prior experience in system architecture design and application scalability strategies. 
• Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes. 
• Experience leading teams or mentoring other developers. 
• Experience working with AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, etc.) is a plus.
