Kathmandu Forestry College (KAFCOL), which was established in 2005, is the first public company with a mandate of producing forestry graduates in Nepal. The college, which is affiliated with the Tribhuvan University and CTEVT, has been currently running four academic programs in three levels - Diploma in Forestry, BSc Forestry, MScs in Natural Resources Management and Rural Development, and Geographical Information Science and Systems (GIScience). Alongside regular teaching and research, the college has been implementing research and outreach projects related to biodiversity, forestry, and natural resources management.

KAFCOL is looking for a qualified and dynamic faculty member to teach MSc, B.Sc. and Diploma Level Forestry and Natural Resources Management (NRM) courses and supervise research works of students.

Duties/ Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate is expected to teach at least three courses per semester
  • Guide/supervise project works and other assignments of students
  • Carry out academic, research and outreach activities as assigned by the College, with highest level of quality standards.
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate students' academic and research performances and report the same to the Principal and Vice principal
  • In consultation with the Principal and other senior faculty members, proactively work to bring suitable research projects in the College
  • Assist the Principal and Vice-Principal in organizing occasional training, seminars and talk programs, and assist Program Coordinators in planning, and implementing field study tours and excursions
  • Proactively work to enforce and monitor the College rules relating to students' conduct
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the principal

Qualifications

  • Should have at least Masters Degree (preferably, PhD) in relevant subject (such as Soil Conservation/Watershed Management; Forestry; NRM) from reputed university. Experience in teaching and students' research supervision would be additional advantages
  • Should be able to teach three courses in line with KAFCOL requirements
  • Should be willing to and capable of participating in students' study tours and excursions
  • Should be knowledgeable about basic computer skills, including MS Word,  Excel, Power Point etc. Having knowledge of practically useful software for practical classes of the subjects to be taught are preferable
  • Should have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali languages
  • Experience in writing project proposals and track record of obtaining competitive grants; and publication of research papers in professional journals would be important advantages

Appointment

The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor (see notes below). The initial appointment is normally for one year and is renewable based on performance. The salary offered to the successful candidate is as per the KAFCOL rules, commensurate with qualifications and experience. It is also possible to earn additional income by carrying out research and consulting projects.
