LOCATION: Kathmandu (Frequent travel to the field)

TEAM/PROGRAMME:  Response Team Leader/ Humanitarian Director 

CONTRACT LENGTH: Till March 2016

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

 

ROLE PURPOSE: 
To support the Response Team Leader/ Humanitarian Director on  multi-sectoral ongoing needs assessment for the Nepal Earthquake Response 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY : 

  • To support RTL on various  assessments and ongoing verification exercises for the ongoing Nepal Earthquake response
  • To ensure effective use of SC tools (quantitative and qualitative) for the assessment process
  • To facilitate/conduct online (using tablet) and offline (paper based) data collection.
  • To provide supervision/mentoring to the assessment officers and field staff (field enumerators and supervisors) 
  • To conduct quantitative survey using structured questionnaire  and qualitative study using focus group discussions (FGDs), key informant interview (KII) direct observation, and case study 
  • To conduct periodic childrens consultations using child friendly tools (body mapping/H-assessment/expressive drawing) 
  • To sensitize gender and social inclusion (GESI) in all assessments and ensure ethical data collection and data protection policies are adhered to.
  • To update, clean and verify data sets for analysis
  • To support the MEAL team and TAs in data analysis including quantitative data using SPSS/STATA/EXCEL and qualitative data using Atlas Ti/NVIVO
  • To monitor the field work for the assessment and ensure child safeguarding policies are followed  and reported properly
  • To contribute to the assessment reporting and submit to the RTL/ Hum Director following agreed timeline
  • To participate/ represent SCI in multi-agency needs assessment processes as required
  • To coordinate learning events and workshops for program units to document lessons learnt, good practices and areas of improvement;
  • To technically backstop Assessment Officers in managing, performing and prioritizing their tasks;
  • To identify capacity building events for assessment team for system strengthening and sharing of learning;
  • Develop and manage database as required by assessment needs
  • Any other relevant tasks given by line manager

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences and certification in SPSS or other data analysis softwares

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 2 years of monitoring and evaluation and/or research experience preferably with INGOs
