Nepal Architecture Archive, established in 2016 is an initiative by The Saraf Foundation to collect, preserve, and archive documents related to Nepal's architectural heritage. NAA houses the most extensive scholarly collection on Nepal's architectural heritage and history. Most of our collections are works by foreign architects, anthropologists, artists, photographers, researchers, and individuals who came to Nepal through different grants and research projects after Nepal opened to the outside world in the 1950s. Many of them worked to document and preserve Nepal’s cultural and architectural heritage. Our effort is to bring together their works and make them accessible to the community for research and knowledge sharing.

  • Bachelors or Masters in any of the mentioned fields: Archiving / Archival Science, Library Science, Museum Studies, Architecture, Landscape & Urban Planning, Media and Communications, Nepali History, Culture & Archeology, Business Studies or Administration, and other related/relevant fields.
  • 1 to 2 years of work and experience in institutions/organizations/companies related to architecture, archives, art, or a museum is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience with information technology applications in archives is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Knowledge of Nepali architecture, history, culture, craft traditions, and art would be an advantage .
  • The candidate should show a keen interest in working with various professionals in the field .
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills (Nepali and English).

Job Description

  • Managing the work calendars (including attendance) and coordinating weekly meetings to discuss, assign, and review weekly tasks
  • Handling communication with scholars and donors regarding the acquisitions and documentation
  • Keeping records of new acquisitions and documenting the process
  • Preparing inventories for the archive’s collections and ensuring that all the materials are safely stored and handled, taking the required precautions and following the archival standard
  • Researching and identifying the gaps in existing holdings and reaching out to relevant institution(s)/individual(s)/ donor(s) for potential acquisition
  • Carrying out archival auditing (including library) semiannually to ensure that the materials are appropriately handled, carefully filed, well-stored, and in the right location
  • Revising and updating the manuals for data management if/when required 
  • Researching and writing scholars’ biographies drawing on the format provided by the institution
  • Preparing scholars' profiles to manage information and records related to their contributions to the archive's collection
  • Maintaining a stable physical environment for the receipt, storage, and handling of the archival holdings.
  • Overseeing the regular cleaning, monthly inspection, and maintenance of the physical space
  • Maintaining an inventory of furniture and equipment in the archive and inspecting their condition semiannually
  • Routinely updating the website and database for information access, adhering to the information policy for collection management
  • Supporting the research and program team by providing the data and information they require for their research and projects
  • Preparing and sharing weekly progress reports
