Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH invites applications from suitable and qualified professional for the Green Resilient Agricultural-Centred Private Sector Development (GRAPE II) and International Climate Initiative (IKI) Small grants programme.

GRAPE II is a joint Nepali-German Project under the guidance of the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation (MoLCPA), Government of Nepal, with Technical Assistance by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The overall objective of the Project is to strengthen gender-equitable and climate-resilient economic development in Nepal.

Applicants will also support the team of the global climate and biodiversity action funding programme, IKI Small Grants. IKI Small Grants funds local actors who drive change and are essential for effective climate and biodiversity action worldwide. The funding programme is part of the IKI, which is jointly commissioned by three German Federal ministries. IKI Small Grants fosters bottom-up solutions and strengthens the capacities of local actors. The IKI Small Grants team is based in Berlin, and the applicant will work closely with GIZ colleagues in Germany.

Position: Advisor

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies for scaling innovative technologies, methods, and practices to drive sustainable and inclusive private-sector growth
  • Mobilize expertise and resources to document, disseminate, and institutionalize approaches that advance gender transformation and climate resilience
  • Engage with stakeholders, including NGOs, universities, and training centers, to integrate gender-sensitive and climate-resilient practices into training programs and initiatives
  • Provide strategic and technical guidance to implementing organizations under the IKI Small Grants Programme, ensuring effective project design, risk management, safeguards, gender integration, and capacity development
  • Contribute to the conceptual development of funding programs, including refining processes, impact monitoring, evaluation, and institutionalizing best practices
  • Support and coordinate knowledge management efforts by documenting, analyzing, and sharing innovative practices, key developments, and lessons learned through reports, events, and conferences
  • Oversee project monitoring and evaluation under the IKI Small Grants Programme and GRAPE II, including conducting site visits to ensure compliance, progress, and quality standards
  • Develop and maintain gender-sensitive monitoring frameworks for GRAPE II and the IKI Small Grants Programme to track progress, assess gender mainstreaming efforts, and identify opportunities for improvement

Required qualifications and experience

  • Master’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Development Studies, or a related field with relevance to climate, biodiversity and/or sustainability
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of climate change and / or biodiversity, reference to the topic of greenhouse gas mitigation or climate change adaptation desirable
  • Strong familiarity with gender-transformative and inclusive approaches in agriculture, forestry and private sector development
  • Expertise in stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, and institutionalization of best practices
  • Experience in project management with impact-oriented monitoring, preferably in cooperation with NGOs and proven consulting, capacity development, and management skills
  • Good communication, networking and knowledge management skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills to foster partnerships and stakeholder collaboration
  • Strategic thinking with a demonstrated ability to design scalable and impactful solutions for innovation and sustainable development
  • Strong technical and analytical skills to provide expert guidance on risk management, impact monitoring, and climate resilience
  • Ability to share knowledge effectively and apply lessons learned for program improvement
  • Fluency in English and Nepali language
