Job Description

Purpose:

Hotel accountant is responsible for managing the finances of hotels and other lodging establishments. He / she is primarily responsible for computing, recording, collecting, analyzing and verifying numerical data to ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded and accounted in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Additionally, responsible for generating bills and collect all revenue owed to the hotel in an accurate, timely manner in accordance with accounting policies and procedures and also be responsible for ensuring that taxes are paid on time, handling payroll duties, and providing support to other departments within the hotel as needed. Also assist the finance manager in directing the financial activities of the hotel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparing journal entries and adjusting account balances
  • Review the postings, payments, revenue and guest balance reports on a daily basis
  • Maintains accounting databases by entering data into the accounting system
  • Preparing bank reconciliations and verifying the accuracy of account balances
  • Prepare wire transfer confirmations for reimbursable invoices
  • Prepare and Process the payroll for all employees
  • Review daily cash balance and maintain cash flow projections
  • Work with vendors promptly and maintain contracts for vendors
  • Maintain accurate and current AP and AR records
  • Chasing late payment, reporting bad debts and keeping an eye on the cash flow
  • Perform follow-up and credit collection of any potential uncollected accounts
  • Process and follow-up on all returned checks accepted as cash payment
  • Analyze revenues, commissions and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately
  • Monitoring cash flow and identifying any potential problems in advance so that corrective action can be taken before an issue arises
  • Perform month-end close reconciliation and financial analysis
  • Review vendor invoice and monthly statement to ensure all expenses are processed
  • Preparing profit and loss account and the balance sheet for the management
  • Preparing financial reports in accordance with accounting standards
  • Preparing accurate month-end account with comparison to forecast
  • Assist with preparing budget and forecasts
  • Assist business planning including project room revenue
  • Calculating tax liabilities for businesses and individuals based on laws
  • Assist with financial and tax audits
  • Assist with preparing tax returns and corporate reporting requirements
  • Assist for completing the year-end audit process
  • Review and approve all reconciliation and audit work papers
  • Rotating monthly audits of inventories and enter final inventory into spreadsheet
  • Maintain Office supplies and order as needed
  • Accomplishes accounting and organization mission
