Street Child is an international charity based in the United Kingdom that aims to create avenues for out-of- school children to access education by through an integrated approach that strengthens the capacity of teachers, schools and communities to sustain their investment in the education for their children.

Following the devastating earthquakes in April and May 2015 that left more than 1 million children out of school and destroyed or damaged over 50,000 classrooms, Street Child UK expanded its operations into Nepal to assist local partners to re-establish education in some of the country’s worst affected communities. 

With the support of DFID, it is now implementing education and livelihood program targeting marginalized girls in Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari and Sunsari districts in Nepal.Street Child of Nepal is therefore calling applications in following position for the implementation of its new program:

Job Description

Reports to: Programs Manager
Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 5:00 pm 

Objective/Purpose of the Position:

  • We are seeking for an ALP Coach who will primarily be responsible for monitoring of Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) running in communities in the above-mentioned districts
  • They will develop the capacity of Community Educators (CEs) in their facilitation, assessment and evaluation and will be responsible for the smooth and efficient implementation of the project activities

Key Responsibilities:

Management and planning: 

  • Responsible for managing closely the Program
  • Working together with partner NGO’s coordinators in enhancing quality of ALP classes and solving problems
  • Working closely with all the stakeholders at district, palika and community level
  • Supporting M & E team in developing assessment tools for ALP classes and conducting assessments
  • Coordinating at concerned district and local units/offices

Communication:

  • Working closely with students, parents, management committees and community people for effectiveness of ALP classes
  • Providing periodic inputs to SCoN and partner organization for the effectiveness of ALP classes
  • Conduct regular follow up with students, parents, educators and management committees

Monitoring:

  • Evaluating ALP classes on regular basis
  • Ensuring ALP classes are inclusive
  • Developing capacity of Community Educators (CE’s) in facilitation, assessment and evaluation

Reporting:

  • Prepare and share timely and accurate progressive reports periodically
  • Reporting on effectiveness of ALP classes and performance of CE’s

Protection and compliance:

  • Ensure that protection cases are reported, referred and followed up
  • Ensure implementation of project activities conforms with requirements and procedures

Working with others:

  • Ensure effective, streamlined communication between education programs and logistics

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Social Work and or relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated minimum of 2 years’ experience in Non-Formal Education and/or teacher training
  • Good understanding of education concepts and issues in the development context
  • Fluency in Maithili, Nepali and English
  • Strong interpersonal & team building skills and excellence as a team player
  • Advanced organizational skills including the ability to manage numerous tasks concurrently, use initiative, establish priority to work to tight or competing deadlines
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive, effective working relationship with the team, consortium and stakeholders
  • In hand experience of using Microsoft office (MS word, MS excel, Power Point etc)
  • Experience in implementing best practices

Desirable:

  • Master degree or equivalent preferred
  • Prior experience on Accelerated Learning Programmes
  • Skill of teaching and learning material development will be an asset
  • Training, facilitation, coaching, supervision experience
  • Knowledge of educational assessment and evaluation
  • Experience in staff management will be an added advantage
