Communications and Outreach Manager

The new five-year Feed the Future Nepal USAID Agricultural Transformation (“USAID Agricultural Transformation”) aims to catalyze the transformation of Nepal’s agricultural sector required for long-term inclusive economic growth. USAID Agricultural Transformation is implemented by Winrock International in collaboration with Center for Environmental and Agricultural Policy Research, Extension and Development (CEAPRED), Forum for Rural Welfare and Agricultural Reform for Development (FORWARD), CrossBoundary, Banyan Global, and the Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS). USAID Agricultural Transformation’s working area will include 26 districts across six provinces, with the goal to reach more than 500,000 farming households.  

Building on successful Feed the Future (FTF) investments in Nepal, USAID Agricultural Transformation will apply a refined evidence-based market systems development approach that empowers Nepali private and public actors to identify, design, implement, and own solutions that address root causes of market inefficiencies across five target value chains (fine rice, industrial maize, high-value vegetables, lentils, and goat) through four interrelated objectives: 

Objective 1: Agricultural productivity, competitiveness, and diversification increased  
Objective 2: Enabling environment for private sector investment in agriculture and equitable access to market systems improved  
Objective 3: Climate and economic resilience of women, youth, and marginalized communities enhanced  
Objective 4: Capacity of national agricultural research institutions and extension systems strengthened.  

USAID Agricultural Transformation will place women, youth, and marginalized populations at the center of intervention design to strengthen their economic participation and address underlying constraints to accessing productive resources, markets, and information. Strategic facilitation pathways will catalyze new investment in inclusive business models, facilitate adoption of climate smart practices, technologies, and services tailored to the diverse needs of users, and strengthen the Government of Nepal (GON) at all three tiers.

Position Title: Communications and Outreach Manager
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal
Unit: Agriculture, Resilience, and Water
Reports To: Communications and Outreach Director

Position Description:
The USAID Agricultural Transformation Communication Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies to promote Agricultural Transformation interventions, creating compelling content for various platforms, managing social media accounts, coordinating media relations, producing newsletters and reports, and supporting internal and external communication efforts to enhance visibility and impact.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the USAID Agricultural Transformation’s point person for capturing success story ideas, photography, short video and other content for USAID Agricultural Transformation communications and products, for bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, as well as social media posts, presentations, etc.
  • Ensure all content integrates gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) related data
  • and/or information as needed.
  • Collaborate with technical and MEL field teams across the activity to identify and verify achievements and stories to be included in communications pieces.
  • Conduct regular field visits to capture content and support visitors and consultants, including photographers and videographers.
  • Support coordination with any communications subcontractors or consultants to ensure that content developed for the activity is consistent and compliant with the activity’s 1) Communication and Outreach Plan; 2) Branding Implementation Plan and Marking Plan; and 3) any other Winrock or USAID requirements.
  • Orient field teams on communications, outreach, branding and marking requirements as needed.
  • Establish, as necessary, and manage knowledge management repositories and communications products or photo libraries.
  • Ensure a safe and equitable workplace, create opportunities, and offer support to women and those from disadvantaged groups.
  • Any other communications and outreach related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Development, Journalism or related field, master’s preferred.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of six years of experience in contributing to project or organization-level communications products for a variety of audiences.
  • Basic familiarity with integrating GESI considerations in communications.
  • Experience in report/deliverable preparations, management, and editing.
  • Strong computer software skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Photography skills required.
  • Working knowledge of design programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Canva e.g.,) preferred.
  • Experience working on cross-functional and multi-cultural teams.

Language: Strong communication skills, fluency in Nepali and Advance/Professional English required.
