Feed the Future Nepal USAID Agricultural Transformation (USAID Agricultural Transformation) is a five-year Activity designed to catalyze transformation in Nepal’s agricultural sector to promote sustainable inclusive economic growth. USAID Agricultural Transformation is implemented by Winrock International in collaboration with five local and international organizations.

Position Title: Communications and Outreach Director 
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal
Unit: Agriculture, Resilience, and Water 
Reports To: COP

Position Description:
The USAID Agricultural Transformation Communications and Outreach Director will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies to promote activities, achievements, and impact. This role involves managing all aspects of internal and external communication, including media relations, content creation, stakeholder engagement, and digital outreach. The Communications and Outreach Director will work closely with USAID Agricultural Transformation teams, partners, and USAID to ensure consistent messaging and effective dissemination of information to key audiences, contributing to USAID Agricultural Transformation’s overall success and visibility.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement USAID Agricultural Transformation internal and external communications and outreach strategy in collaboration with USAID Agricultural Transformation team following USAID and Winrock policies and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with USAID Agricultural Transformation team and Winrock International home office to develop quality key USAID deliverables such as USAID Agricultural Transformation trimester/annual progress reports, success stories, workplan, biweekly updates, and related documents and timely submitted to USAID. 
  • Work with the COP and USAID Agricultural Transformation component and field team, as well as with key project partner/organizations to identify and verify achievements and stories to be included in the reports and communications pieces.
  • Develop/update or support USAID Agricultural Transformation teams in developing communications/outreach/learning materials, presentations etc. ensuring USAID branding and marking compliance.
  • Ensure USAID Agricultural Transformation materials obtain USAID clearance before external circulation and/or printing.
  • Develop and submit regular social media content with USAID and with Winrock International home office to promote project successes and achievements.
  • Coordinate with the contracted media/designing agencies to implement USAID Agricultural Transformation media plans using multi-media platforms/products such as TV programs, articles in press and online media, videos and other outreach materials.
  • Coordinate with USAID Agricultural Transformation teams to develop and disseminate programmatic SMSs (mobile messaging/text-based communications) to grantee partners and associated farmers. 
  • Support USAID Agricultural Transformation teams to develop project communications products as needed (such as Agricultural Transformation repository, closing-out value chain knowledge products etc.).
  • Oversee vendors for public events; assist in the planning, organization and implementation of outreach events. 
  • Contribute to a safe and equitable workplace, creating opportunities, and offering support to women and those from disadvantaged groups. 
  • Carry out other duties assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education: Preferably master’s degree in a relevant field such as business administration, development, journalism or related field.

Required Experience and Skills: 

  • A minimum of eight years of experience in developing project or organization-level communication strategies, program updates, reports and other products for a variety of audiences. 
  • Experience in documentation of success studies, case studies, lessons learned, events, impacts and other communications materials.
  • Extensive report preparation and editing experience.  
  • Strong computer software skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 
  • Strong team player.

Language: Strong communication skills, fluency in Nepali and English required.
