Why is MAQE hiring in Kathmandu?

Great question! Why would a Bangkok-based company recruit for a Back-end engineer role in Kathmandu?

One of our Senior Developers has been working in Kathmandu since 2020. So we are now looking to set up a presence in Nepal. You’ll be working with our Senior Developer in a co-working space in Kathmandu as part of this exciting growth initiative.

The Situation

One of our customers is a Swedish media company that specializes in sports and trotting. They are one of the largest providers of sports and trotting information in the Scandinavian region. And they are still growing.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in sports and development. The successful applicant will have the chance to work with an established brand to improve their suite of digital products.

The Challenge

You will be in a small team, but you will have a lot of responsibility working with a very highly-valued customer.

You will help build new digital products and improve existing products. You will need to communicate proactively and effectively with team mates, leads, management and, crucially, the customer.

You will be developing and maintaining multiple PHP websites for our customer. You will need to write well designed, testable, efficient code after researching, consulting, analyzing, and evaluating the business needs. You might also need to be available for some support work when necessary.

You’ll be working with PHP(Laravel/CodeIgniter/Custom PHP framework), Drupal, AWS, mySql Aurora DB, Circle Ci, Docker, Git, HTML/CSS on a daily basis.

The Opportunity

The job is a permanent position with a 90 day probationary period.

You should have excellent programming skills in PHP and be familiar with PHP framework/CMS like Laravel, CodeIgniter, PyroCMS(CodeIgniter), Drupal.

What you’ll bring to MAQE:

• Knowledge of Design Patterns and development best practices.
• Knowledge of Docker and AWS services like EC2, RDS, SQS, OpsWorks, Route53 etc
• Experience with command line, such as linux, git, ssh
  
• Strong Database Skills
• Knowledge of CI/CD
• Knowledge of Javascript.
• Fluent in English
• Knowledge of Agile Development
• Familiar with nodeJs (Optional)
