BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international charity, and we believe in the power of media and communication for good. We work in more than 30 countries around the world, supporting independent media which is essential to democracy and development. We follow the editorial standards and values of the BBC, but we rely on funding from donors and partners to carry out our work. We have been working in Nepal since 2007 addressing a range of development issues including climate change adaptation, governance, health and humanitarian response.

BBC Media Action Nepal is seeking potential applicants for the position of “Project Manager”. The role works with a team providing support to ongoing project/s in areas such as programme design, quality of delivery, donor compliance and logistics. Working closely with the line manager, the Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring the overall coherence of assigned project/s. S/he will plan, develop, monitor and evaluate assigned project(s) and work with other units (including research, training and networking staff) to apply research findings and the theory of change, to ensure that our programmes bring about the changes we seek.

Contract: 1-year fixed-term contract with potential scope of extension
Organisation structure: The Project Manager will report to a designated Senior Management Team member.

Key responsibilities

Work with the project team to ensure project delivery and compliance, contributing to project design and delivery and securing support from internal and external technical specialists.
Coordinate with project partners and key stakeholders to ensure that the activities, particularly media outputs, directly support existing initiatives of the overall project and are in line with BBC editorial standards and values.
Help ensure that broadcast outputs are produced in an integrated and coherent manner, ensuring high editorial and production standards and the most efficient use of resources.
Manage members of the project team and build project capacity and support staff development in production and other editorial processes.
Lead on the reporting of progress, both internally and externally to partners, the donor, and other interested parties.
Oversee contractual and logistics arrangement with consultants, advisors, suppliers and trainers.
Liaise with other BBC and BBC Media Action teams, particularly production support, policy and thematic, business development, research and learning and finance, to coordinate their support for projects and ensure delivery of specific components of projects as agreed.
Work closely with research colleagues and ensure that research findings are incorporated into project design and implementation as well as disseminate the analysis of key findings and insights.
Manage individual and team performance through line management of programme support team staff.
Contribute to knowledge sharing and policy development across the organisation.
Identify and contribute new ideas, opportunities and partnerships to shape organisational strategy and objectives.
Ensure that assigned project registration, implementation and activities are compliant with government regulations.
Carry out other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Essential criteria:

University degree in a relevant field (Business Management, Economics, Law, Political Science and/or other related area).
Minimum of 7 years’ progressive experience, ideally combining project management expertise with sector-specific knowledge.
Strong analytical thinking and organisational skills, with the ability to simplify complex problems, manage competing priorities, and deliver under pressure.
Extensive experience in managing diverse teams, including staff development and capability building.
Proven financial management skills, with experience overseeing large budgets and providing accurate, timely reporting to donors.
Excellent report-writing skills in English, with a track record of producing clear, high-quality donor reports.
Experience of working with contracts, ideally within the context of project implementation and partnership management.

Desirable skills and experience

Experience of working with and coordinating across government line agencies.
Background in working with national legal frameworks, including policy development and implementation.
