Organization Background
Red Panda Network Nepal (RPN Nepal) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to conserving red pandas and associated biodiversity in Nepal's mid-mountain range. As a sister organization of Red Panda Network (RPN), RPN Nepal envisions a secure, viable and thriving population of wild red pandas. The conservation approach is based on an evidence-based integrated approach comprising education and outreach, habitat restoration, sustainable livelihood, and policy support.
Position overview
The Program Manager will provide overall leadership and coordination for the organization's programs and day-to-day operations of the head office. The position will be responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on programs across multiple districts, ensuring timely delivery, within approved budgets, and in accordance with organizational policies and donor requirements. The position will lead coordination with donors, government agencies, conservation partners, and relevant stakeholders. The individual will also contribute to fundraising and represent organization at different forums.
Roles and responsibilities
Program development and management
- Provide overall technical and managerial leadership for programs implemented across project districts.
- Maintain regular coordination and communication with RPN and the RPN Nepal Board and provide update on the project/program progress on timely basis or as required.
- Lead annual and periodic program planning, implementation, monitoring, and review.
- Ensure program activities are implemented according to approved workplans, budgets, log-frames, and donor agreements.
- Coordinate and provide technical guidance to field teams and project staff.
- Ensure effective coordination among different projects and program components.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor implementation, provide technical support, and engage with communities and partners.
- Lead project monitoring against approved indicators, targets, milestones, and workplans.
- Establish and maintain appropriate systems for collecting, managing, analyzing, and reporting project data.
- Review field data for quality, completeness, and consistency.
Reporting and documentation
- Lead the preparation and review of technical reports to donor agencies and ensure their timely submission.
- Contribute to preparation and publication of scientific papers, policy briefs, and other knowledge products.
- Maintain a systematic program documentation and reporting system, ensuring proper documentation of achievements, challenges, lessons learned, case studies, and success stories, and reviewing reports prepared by project staff.
- Deliver presentations on organizational programs and achievements.
Fund raising and communication
- Identify funding opportunities and develop grant proposals in consultation with RPN and board of RPN Nepal.
- Set fund raising targets as appropriate and lead fund raising activities.
- Serve as a key focal person for communication with donors and funding partners.
- Coordinate regularly with government agencies at federal, provincial, and local levels.
- Participate in coordination meetings, workshops, consultations, and technical working groups.
- Represent the organization professionally and effectively in relevant forums.
- Communicate program results and organizational priorities effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to organizational communications, newsletters, websites, social media, and other outreach materials as required.
Administration
- Oversee the day-to-day administrative and operational management of office and staff
- Ensure effective coordination among program, finance, and administrative functions and compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and donor requirements.
- Lead the development of program workplans and budgets, monitor expenditures against approved budgets, and ensure that program spending is timely, appropriate, and within available budget limits.
- Lead and oversee procurement, travel, logistics, and other operational requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Master’s degree in environmental science/management, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Zoology, development studies or a relevant field.
Experience
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in conservation, natural resource management, community development or related programs.
- Strong knowledge of project planning tools, including logical frameworks, workplans, indicators, budgets, and monitoring frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage a small team.
- Evidence of working with donors, preparing donor reports, and grant applications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace and working knowledge of spatial mapping and data analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with government authorities at federal, provincial, and local levels, and conservation partners.
- Experience in office/program management and operational coordination.
- Experience in landscape-level and community-based conservation will be highly desirable.

- Willingness to undertake frequent and sometimes extended travel to remote project locations and work independently.
Other Responsibilities
The Program Manager may be required to undertake other relevant duties assigned by the chairperson or designated supervisor.
