North South Collectives (NSC) is an interdisciplinary social and policy research center. The Collectives promote critical public dialogues, research fellowships for equity and social justice, and investment in the generation of scholars and filmmakers. The Collectives is evolving as a leading interdisciplinary center and a public forum committed to freedom, equity, and prosperity. The Collectives works to strengthen and expand regional and national networks of individuals and institutions to build a just and equitable society. To enable and enhance knowledge, innovation, and solutions, the Collectives grapple with the pressing issues confronting humankind today: democracy, economic order, legal regimes, cultural rights, social inequalities and power relations, migration, science and technology, public policy, and social progress. In the past, NSC organized public lecture series on various issues related to federalism, elections, history, indigeneity, and other topics. NSC has also completed research programs in coordination with different education and health institutions and is currently involved with a pilot study in ‘social science for social justice. ’NSC has also completed film workshops. NSC is announcing a vacancy for “Promoting Inclusion Through Media Fellowship in Madhesh,” funded by the USAID Civil Society and Media (CSM) Program, with The Asia Foundation as the lead implementer.

Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Junior Researcher/Program Associate. The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive political economy analysis of foreign labor migration from the Madhesh province of Nepal under supervision of team leader and Researcher.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting literature reviews and desk research on the political, economic, and social factors influencing labor migration from Madhesh.
  • Collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data to assess migration patterns, remittance flows, and socio-economic impacts.
  • Collaborating with local stakeholders, researchers, and policymakers to gather insights and perspectives on labor migration dynamics.
  • Contributing to the development of policy briefs, reports, and advocacy materials based on research findings.
  • Supporting programmatic activities related to migration governance, labor rights, and social inclusion in collaboration with team members.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Bachelor's(With 3 years of experience) or Master's degree in Economics, Political Science, International Development, or a related field.
  • Strong research skills, including experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of political economy frameworks and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with issues related to labor migration, migration governance, and development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Nepali is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in English and Nepali languages. Knowledge of other regional languages spoken in Madhesh province is an asset.

Duration: Initially 3 months of probation period and likely to be extended based on scope of the project and available funding.
