Job Description

Department: Farm Operations
Location: Poultry Farm (Broiler / Layer / Breeder Unit as assigned)
Reporting To: Farm Manager / Production GM

Job Purpose

To supervise day-to-day poultry farm operations including flock management, staff supervision, feed and medicine administration, biosecurity, and record-keeping, ensuring optimum bird health, productivity, and compliance with company standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Flock Management

  • Oversee daily care of birds (feeding, watering, lighting, ventilation, and space management).
  • Monitor bird health, mortality, and behavior; report abnormalities to the veterinarian/manager.
  • Ensure proper administration of vaccines, medicines, and supplements.
  • Maintain production standards for growth rate, FCR, mortality, and egg production (iflayer farm).

2. Staff Supervision & Training

  • Supervise farm workers in their daily duties.
  • Allocate tasks and ensure timely completion (feeding, cleaning, litter management, egg collection, etc.).
  • Provide on-the-job training to workers on biosecurity, handling of birds, and safety procedures.
  • Monitor worker attendance, discipline, and performance.

3. Biosecurity & Hygiene

  • Enforce strict biosecurity measures (foot dips, farm entry protocols, PPE usage).
  • Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and waste disposal practices.
  • Monitor and maintain rodent, fly, and pest control programs.
  • Prevent unauthorized access to farm facilities.

4. Feed & Inventory Management

  • Ensure timely supply and distribution of feed and water to birds.
  • Monitor feed intake and report deviations.
  • Track farm consumables (vaccines, medicines, disinfectants, equipment).
  • Maintain records of feed consumption, stock balance, and wastage.

5. Record-Keeping & Reporting

  • Maintain daily farm records (mortality, culls, feed & water intake, egg production, vaccinations, medication).
  • Report daily performance and incidents to the Farm Manager.
  • Assist in data collection for production analysis and audits.

6. Farm Maintenance & Safety

  • Oversee farm facility upkeep (ventilation, lighting, water systems, equipment maintenance).
  • Ensure compliance with animal welfare and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs and improvements.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Mortality within target limits.
  • FCR (Feed Conversion Ratio) achievement.
  • Production targets met (weight gain, egg production, hatchability where applicable).
  • Compliance with biosecurity SOPs.
  • Accuracy and timeliness of farm reports.
