National Consultant to conduct a Value Chain Development (VCD) training to community volunteers under Family Centered Approach in Province 2 and 5.

Location – Based on Kathmandu, with field visit to Province 2 & 5, Nepal

Background on the project

Strengthening Access to Holistic, Gender Responsive, and Accountable Justice in Nepal (SAHAJ) aims to reduce vulnerability towards different forms of Gender Based Violence (GBV) with increased breaking culture of silence around GBV and increased access to security and justice services. Through a consortium led by VSO with co-lead International Alert (IA); partners Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD), Emory University; SAMAGRA; and MAHURI Home, SAHAJ started implementing programs in Provinces 2 and 5. Among many Economic Empowerment of women and girls is one of the major activity of SAHAJ project. So far primary actors have developed business plan and started Income Generating Activities based on their skill and scope of the area. Therefore, to make IGA activities successful, it is necessary to sell the products in market and get profit. In this regards SAHAJ project has planned to conduct basic value chain development training to the community volunteers who will later support and mentor primary actors to develop market linkage and make maximum profit. The project envisions that if women and girls are economically empowered, they will be capable to speak against any forms of violence and challenge harmful social norms that perpetrate Gender based Violence (GBV). 

Purpose

VSO Nepal is looking for an accomplished and highly motivated national consultant to conduct 5 days basic VCD training in each Province 2 & 5. The total number of participants in Province 2 will be max 15 and in province 5 max 20. All the training should be conducted in Nepali language. The consultant will be responsible for designing and developing training package particularly focusing from gender perspective because IGA is led by women(daughters-in-law) and adolescent girls in both provinces. 

Objective of this assignment

The overall objective of this assignment is to build the capacity of the community volunteers and partner staff to broaden their vison and improve skill on value chain development approach.  The specific objectives of this assignment are: 

  • Develop the conceptual understanding on Value Chain Development Approach
  • Develop and strengthen a skill on Value Chain Development approach planning, risk identification, mitigation and coordination process
  • Reflect learning and challenges on the existing IGA carried by women and adolescent girls from province 2 and 5
  • Draft the overall value chain development steps and process of the IGA that supports women and adolescent girls in project intervention areas
  • Develop key immediate action plans for rolling out the drafted value chain development steps/process for women and girls in their respective working areas
